Blue Chip Camp Session 1

Tanner is a top notch kid, great attitude and work ethic. He is also a very good basketball player. According to the family, they are more concerned with him as a person and student. If he plays sports, they also want a coach that feels the same way. Do not misconstrue any of this. There is a chance he doesn't play basketball again. As long as he is enjoying life, maturing and becoming a man, I think mom and dad will be more than proud. Hoops are definitely secondary to these other things - as it should be for everyone. When the Shotwells make a decision on next school year, it will be with Tanner's best personal interests in mind. They will be sure that he has adults that are concerned for him and encouraging his growth and development in every area of life.

If he doesn't want to play then he shouldn't because if he did play odds are he'd be miserable. Hopefully he'll figure things out and be happy.

At Scott Co, yes. I think he will be fine. If nothing else, he has a great AAU team and 2 great coaches!

Way to much down time for the kids for the amount of money you spend. The so-called "mini" clinics were a joke. No hands on instruction at all, the kids just set and listened to really nothing.

Seems like I've heard that before.

I would not send my son again unless he is a JR. or Sr. and needs some added exposure and that would be just for the possible exposure and is all!

As for Barber, he is a Junior this coming year. He has not been in the varsity rotation and it will take a lot to get him into it. Shotwell couldn't even get 5 minutes a game with Hicks. They have a very deep team and multiple guys that would've had similar or better stats up there. Watch Barber, Samsel and other guys on the AAU circuit starting this week and then pass judgment. They may do just as well but it will say a lot more if they do.

If these two players had such great games in a "pick up" or "camp" game that's great... But, where does the other team come in? If those 2 kids are scoring 40 or 50 points in a game and throwing up 30 to 40 shots or whatever, how does that benefit the other players???

Dont these teams have coaches or leaders? Throwing up 3's everytime down the floor is bad fundamentals and non-beneficial to other teammates.

Sounds like a badly run camp IMO.

I agree that if they do it on the AAU circuit, or during school ball, that is great and good for them.

Don't know about Barber, but Samsel has been doing this all summer. This weekend he had 31 pts and 8 threes against the MBC team in the Bluechip exposure tourney at Mid America. In June at a Cincinnati aau tourny he was 22 for 29 from the three in a three game stretch against good competition. One team was the KY Players with three Holmes players on that squad.

At the Georgetown team camp he had 32 3's in 7 games. I don't think his high school coach would let him just jack up threes.

That is great. I am glad to hear that he is doing well and tearing it up on the aau circuit. Surely he will work his butt off to get a lot of good varsity minutes.

I still contest that this camp was non-beneficial to many players IF the CAMP coaches were allowing this to go on. Basketball is about working within the team (and within the offense and defense) and I dont know any coach whose game plan is to just shoot three's all game long.

Its great that this kid can knock down the tre', but what else can he do? Just curious as I am not extremely familiar with him.

Samsels' game has really progressed over the summer. He not only is an exceptional shooter he also has great handles sees the floor well and is a good on the ball defender. In my opinion he could be considered one of the best PG's in the state if he will just buy into the KISS (Keep It Simple Sean) principle. He has a tendency to want to make everything harder than it has to be. He could also work a little harder on his off the ball defense. That being said, I think Sean is the one of the top 10 seniors in Jefferson Co. and that is excellent company.

Good shooter when not guarded closely. Not sure I would put him into the top 10 in all of Louisville. Perhaps the next group after that. Other seniors in Louisville who come to mind that I think are a level above:

Thomas

Jackson

Jackson

Richards

Chiles

Sewell

Epley

Maddox

Henderson

Kennedy

Gibbs

I'm probably missing some. Others in the mix:

Glenn

McElwain

Corbett

Nikolic ? (tall kid from Samsel's team)

Pillaschafke

Top Seniors in 7th region IMO:

Josh Sewell

Ian Chiles

Delquan Thomas

Thomas Jackson

Keiston Jones

Tim Henderson

Orlando Rutledge

Deonte Maddox

Reginald Breedon

Alexander Nikolic

D'Carlos Hayes

Zach McElwain

Sean Samsel

Tony Horn

Aaron Nance

Tim Harrison

Richard Kennedy

Tyler Epley

Daniel Corbett

Seventh Region alone is stacked with quality players!

I agree....would add James Pillaschafske and Colin Lopez to that list.
