Blue Chip Camp Session 1

Featured Replies

What do you think overall of the camp? I have heard a lot of negative feedback lately about the camp. Therefore I am a little reluctant to send any of our team there. Several of the complaints have been there is a lot of dead time, very poorly run and disorganized and catered to only a few. One person said at moments it was a free for all at imes. Any opinions as these are from some counselors and parents and I am not there to see it first hand and have an opinion.

We just picked up my son from the camp and he had a positive experience. The one comment he said was there was way too much downtime (4-5 hours at a time).

There are times where the kids have down time, but from what I have heard from coaches that work the camp is that during that down time there are "mini clinics" that kids can attend. Usually the kids have stations in the morning, then a morning game, seminars, afternoon game and practice, then a night game and between that time there are clinics and other stuff the kids can attend. Most of the coaches that I have talked to about this camp think that is a good camp for kids to attend, and lately a lot of out-of-state teams have been using it as a team camp situation.

What year is he? I noticed that he was playing JV for Scott County at the KBA a couple of weeks ago.

He is either one year younger than Euton or the same age, not sure. Either way he has no business playing against JV teams.

Brilliant transfer by the way.

I saw on the program that there were only two "mini-clinics" for guards and one for big men. And then was told my another person that the clinics involved a man speaking about whatever skills were being discussed. No hands on stuff, so essentially there was a lot of down time for the campers..

I've heard he's been doing this all summer.

This was at Georgetown's high school team camp from Demling blog:

He is starting to generate alot of interest. I heard Georgetown's head coach Happy Osborne talked with Sean after the Georgetown team camp. He is on their radar screen. I heard Mid-Continent coached by Winston Bennett is recruiting him pretty hard.

This is no slight on Samsel but Mid-Continent is recruiting EVERYONE right now. Ok, not everyone but any decent player in KY and around is being pursued at some level by them. I guess that's the way to get your name out there and pull in a few surprise players.

As for Barber, he is a Junior this coming year. He has not been in the varsity rotation and it will take a lot to get him into it. Shotwell couldn't even get 5 minutes a game with Hicks. They have a very deep team and multiple guys that would've had similar or better stats up there. Watch Barber, Samsel and other guys on the AAU circuit starting this week and then pass judgment. They may do just as well but it will say a lot more if they do.

I thought Shotwell was ineligible last year and never played school ball with Scott Co. this summer. When has he been coached in a game by Coach Hicks?

I heard Shotwell wasn't playing this year..

Shotwell played with Scott Co throughout June under Hicks. There is talk of him heading somewhere else but, for now, that is just talk.

He did not play and only he can tell you what he is going to do!!!!!!!!!!!:ohbrother:

Actually, he can't tell you want he is going to do. He has 3-4 options and they haven't decided yet. This at least from dad and son.

He doesn't know what he wants to do? Hes already been to 2 high schools. I heard he is very talented and wish him well. I hope there isn't something bad that we don't know about and is none of our business I guess going on behind the scenes. He should be able to play ball and enjoy high school and being a kid.

Tanner is a top notch kid, great attitude and work ethic. He is also a very good basketball player. According to the family, they are more concerned with him as a person and student. If he plays sports, they also want a coach that feels the same way. Do not misconstrue any of this. There is a chance he doesn't play basketball again. As long as he is enjoying life, maturing and becoming a man, I think mom and dad will be more than proud. Hoops are definitely secondary to these other things - as it should be for everyone. When the Shotwells make a decision on next school year, it will be with Tanner's best personal interests in mind. They will be sure that he has adults that are concerned for him and encouraging his growth and development in every area of life.
