Jennings says Ricky Rubio is 'all hype'

Featured Replies

I'd consider taking Ty Lawson over Flynn or Rubio :D

Lawson has fallen quite a bit while Rubio has remained in the top 5 and Flynn's stock has gone way up.

I'm biased. :D

Actually, I know all of that- from watching Flynn and Lawson the past few years, I think Lawson will be a better player (if he can stay healthy). We'll see about Rubio. But I know I'm no expert, we'll see.

You're an idiot there are plenty of players that will be very good pros maybe not great but 20-10 guys for sure in the league. It all depends on the system there running, how they adapt to the style of the NBA and how there coaches develop them over the season. I agree not many rookies will have a huge impact out of this draft this year but down the road I could see a few making all-star games and winning NBA championships.

Leave out the first 3 words and you would have had a good post. Namecalling isn't necessary.

Jennings now has this to say....

Brandon Jennings on alluding to Rubio’s game being overrated: “I think it got a little out of hand. The kid’s not overrated. He has more experience than anybody in this draft. He’s been playing pro ball since he’s been 15. The kid is a great kid. I know him off the court; we did a photo shoot in Italy for Slam Magazine and that was awesome. No disrespect to the kid. I think since he’s the best point guard in this draft and I want to be the best point guard in the draft, I’m just a competitor and I just want to compete against the best.”

Talk about backtracking...

Rubio's stock is largely based on his Olympic performance...and based on that, he can play. I think he'll be a very good PG in the NBA.

In fact, I wouldn't be surprised if he ends up being the best player in this draft class, because I don't know what I think about Blake Griffin. On one hand, I think a guy who consistently posted the numbers he did in college has to be a darn good player...but, on the other, I'm a little like bugatti. I don't see him as the no-brainer and only automatic pick in the draft.

I think I'd take Thabeet over Griffin if I wanted a center. Griffin is more polished right now, for sure, but when you look at upside, there's no comparison. Give Thabeet a little time to develop (especially on the offensive end) and he could be one of the top centers in the league for years and a dominant force on the boards and defensively.

Is there more risk? Absolutely. But, when you're trying to turn a franchise around and achieve the ultimate goal which is winning a title, do you play it safe or take a little risk for a huge payoff? Then again, we're talking about the Clippers. They likely won't be able to develop a player, so they better pick the guy who is most ready now.

I'd be very tempted to take Rubio if I were the Clippers.

Memphis should take Thabeet without question.

Jodie Meeks is better than Ricky Rubio. IMO.

As evidenced by their draft buzz...:D

Jodie Meeks is better than Ricky Rubio. IMO.

I hope you are kidding.

Jodie Meeks is better than Ricky Rubio. IMO.

And people wonder why I'm so critical of Jodie Meeks. What a joke. Rubio is a franchise PG. Meeks will be lucky to be on a roster in 3 years.

:clap::clap: That's going a little too far I must say.

How can you determine that??? By watching Youtube and a few games in the Olympics??

By franchise PG, I mean that he is someone teams feel can run their team for the future. By taking a PG in the top 3, which is where he is projected, someone feels like he is.

I've followed Rubio for about 3 years, and I think he has the potential to be a great player in the NBA. I think he CAN be a huge star.

Other top 3 PG picks:

2008- Derrick Rose (1)- Rookie of the year, looks like a future star

2005- Deron Williams (3)- possible future HOF

2002- Jay Williams (2)- Most thought he could end up as a star. Injury ended career

1999- (2) Steve Francis- Nicknamed the franchise, was very good until he got old and disgruntled.

(3) Baron Davis- was very, very good until this season. Made the Hornets and the Warriors into playoff teams

1998- (2) Mike Bibby- Not a HOF, but has started on many playoff teams. Solid guy.

1997- (3) Chauncey Billups- Took him a few years, but he is a great PG.

1994- (2) Jason Kidd- HOF'er.

1990- (2) Gary Payton- great player during his Sonics years.

My point is two-fold

1. Teams are only willing to take a PG that high if they think he is going to be great. These are the guys since 90.

2. Most of these guys panned out. Maybe not for 15 years, but all these guys looked like they were worthy of those picks, if even for a short time.

You may not like Rubio, but NBA teams must. And to take him at 3 or higher warrants that NBA teams, not you or me, feel that he will be great.

Brandon Jennings averaged 5 points/game this season. Should he really be talking?

I'll take Rubio and you can have Meeks ok Choosen one? Well see whose team wins. :D

Rubio can pass, and....? Oh yeah he can take the hall behind his back with no purpose. He doesn't play agains SEC competition. Meeks is stronger, can shoot, can pass. Im not saying Rubio isn't a good player, but just IMO, all biased aside, Meeks is a better player.
