June 24, 200917 yr By franchise PG, I mean that he is someone teams feel can run their team for the future. By taking a PG in the top 3, which is where he is projected, someone feels like he is. I've followed Rubio for about 3 years, and I think he has the potential to be a great player in the NBA. I think he CAN be a huge star. Other top 3 PG picks: 2008- Derrick Rose (1)- Rookie of the year, looks like a future star 2005- Deron Williams (3)- possible future HOF 2002- Jay Williams (2)- Most thought he could end up as a star. Injury ended career 1999- (2) Steve Francis- Nicknamed the franchise, was very good until he got old and disgruntled. (3) Baron Davis- was very, very good until this season. Made the Hornets and the Warriors into playoff teams 1998- (2) Mike Bibby- Not a HOF, but has started on many playoff teams. Solid guy. 1997- (3) Chauncey Billups- Took him a few years, but he is a great PG. 1994- (2) Jason Kidd- HOF'er. 1990- (2) Gary Payton- great player during his Sonics years. My point is two-fold 1. Teams are only willing to take a PG that high if they think he is going to be great. These are the guys since 90. 2. Most of these guys panned out. Maybe not for 15 years, but all these guys looked like they were worthy of those picks, if even for a short time. You may not like Rubio, but NBA teams must. And to take him at 3 or higher warrants that NBA teams, not you or me, feel that he will be great. Williams was thought of as a franchise builder, love to of seen him healthy for 15 years.

Im not saying Rubio isn't a good player, but just IMO, all biased aside, Meeks is a better player. That's makes sense considering every NBA GM and scout thinks Rubio is a top 5 pick and Meeks is late first rounder if he is lucky and most like in going in the 2nd round.

June 24, 200917 yr I find it quite hysterical that people actually think Meeks is better than Rubio. Don't be so UK-biased!!! He's a prodigy, scoring 51 points, to go along with 24 rebounds, 12 assists, and 7 steals in the Under-16 European Championship game. He helped aid his team in getting to the championship game in the Olympics. He's not a huge scorer, but I think that will come in time. His Basketball IQ seems to be off the charts, especially for his age. He IS a franchise PG. Meeks will bounce around team to team, and this is coming from a huge UK fan.

But my opinion is sticking for now! :lol: Although many see Rubio as the best European prospect since Petrovic, I always have some skepticism about foreign born players. You never know how they will pan out. Just ask Detroit. The European game is different than the NBA. We will see... I am excited to see him play. Of what I saw of him in highlights and in the past Olympics, you can see he has some talent. Quickness is a question mark for me.
June 25, 200917 yr I know I am going to have a lot of people who disagree with me on this, but after having watched Rubio's highlights and videos, I do not see that he is fast enough, strong enough, or quick enough to compete with the top PGs in the league. He seems soft, and I do not see his flashy style of play being efficient at the NBA level.

He isn't a great on the ball defender, but his defensive instincts are off the charts. He makes alot of plays he shouldn't make. He can somehow get to the basket. I really don't know how but he gets it done. He really reminds me of Steve Nash without a polished jumpshot. Meeks can pass? How would we know, he didn't do it too often last year? He can shoot, but he isn't a great scorer. Yeah, 25 PPG or whatever but they weren't NBA points. He is a terrible player off the dribble, I literally don't think that he could take Anthony Johnson or Mark Madsen to the hole. SEC competition? This isn't football. SEC basketball is garbage and has been for a while. You may have one or two good teams a year, but it is garbage. How many players not named LeBron were NBA strong at 18 coming into the NBA. He is far from soft as well. He takes a punishment overseas, and plays through it. ^ he abused any and everyone the USA team threw at him in the Olympics. Tell 'em Hammer!:thumb:
June 26, 200917 yr Rubio going home now? He may. He needs to make the best financial decision he can. If he goes away his instant earning power in the NBA goes down. His first year he will play for less than the 5th pick in the draft would normally get.
