I hope Homer reaches his potential, I'm just concerened he may be a 4a player.

Can you justify having that many young pitchers on your big league squad & Strasburg in the minors?

 

This year, yes, especially if takes until mid-August, as expected, for him to sign.

My guess is one gives a teenager a couple of million dollars it would be wise to watch who he associates with. Season ticket holders included.

It's no different than with any other "fan" and an athlete. If he doesn't sign one kids autograph or give someone a ball he's got to be a jerk, right? :ohbrother:

 

Tells me nothing of how he's taking Ted Powers advice and his willingness to adjust his delivery or throw his curve ball.

 

Essentially, I don't give two loads or horse crap if he's a jerk to fans as long as he pitches well and gets everything worked out with his team and the organization.

Agreed. How many times does a guy sign an autograph and it gets overlooked? A couple of times he doesn't and it's a story.

Bailey has had three very impressive outings in a row. Saturday, he worked out of a 1st inning jam caused by an error. He went on to retire 10 or 11 in a row after the 1st. He has gone to a split-finger as his #2 pitch instead of his curve. More importantly, he had his fastball under control. No walks on the night----that's an amazing occurence for Homer.

 

There are a number of season ticket holders that can't stand Bailey because of his lack of effort at times. I doubt many actually talk to him----he does not seem to be the socializing sort (and perhaps this is a turnoff as well). At times last year and early this year, he appeared to be uncomfortable and confused. In this current stretch, he is doing many of the little things well: covering first base on balls hit to the right side, backing up plays, not falling behind hitters (ok---not so little). Is this a sign that he has "humbled himself" and become coachable or is it a mirage? Only time will tell, but I still think Bailey could be a high caliber pitcher in the big leagues (maybe not a 1, but a solid 2 or 3). I do believe that a change of scenery would be good for him and if the Reds can get a power bat in Left or 3rd or a quality lefty on the mound the deal would be done.

Wow! That was impressive! And I actually agree with you. I don't care if he's a jerk or not, but it's actually a pretty personable park, not like a major league stadium, and I would think that those guys would know what they were talking about, but in any event, that don't matter, I'd much rather he be a viable asset to the Reds.

Bailey pitched 8 shutout innings for Louisville last night. He has lowered his ERA to 2.38, which is one of the ten best in the International League and increased his strikeouts to 74, good for second in the league. In addition, Louisville seems to have turned a corner and is 12-3 this month, improving to five games over .500 for the first time this season. I wish Homer all the best. He's lights out right now and is looking like the pitcher we all hoped he could be. Keep it up.

What concerns me about that is a lot of split finger guys end up having elbow trouble down the road.
