Homer Bailey

Featured Replies

I haven't kept up with baseball at all since Barry Bonds broke the single season homerun record, and in turn, broke my heart, but I have been keeping up with it a bit this year. A buddy and I are going to watch the RiverBats play tonight actually, and was just wondering, what's the deal with this Homer Bailey kid. I read awhile back in SI that he was a big time prospect, but so far he has sucked royally. Was he just not that good to begin with, or what's the deal there?

A. He's 22 or 23. I'd have to look but I don't imagine there are more than 5 MLB starters that age.

B. Control is still his demon.

Way too early to label him a bust. The fact that he hasn't lived up to the hype is more on us as fans and it reflects how poorly this franchise has been run than it does on him.

From all accounts, his attitude is where it needs to be unlike previous seasons. Its simply a matter of gaining control of his pitches.

There have been several reports that Homer's attitude and approach to the game have improved tremendously!

That's deep, but I like it.

He's been lights out for the bats over the course of the last month or so. His last two games have been especially impressive, going 14 innings between the two games, giving up no runs and striking out 14. It'll be interesting to see how the rest of his summer goes. His 6-5 record isn't all that impressive but, like their parent club, the Bats ain't exactly a team of phenomenal hitters.

Very good point!

Came to the majors too early with a 94mph fastball only. He still needs work.

Anyone else think that the best thing for Homer Bailey (and his so-called "attitude") could be Matt Maloney?

Oh I think his attitude is long gone after last year and hearing all the rumors that the Reds couldn't get a decent prospect for him. I hate to see him go do well somewhere else but maybe he needs a guy like the Cards/Braves pitching coach.

The Nationals almost have that many in their starting rotation.

...and have less wins than Dunn as homers.

He pitched in Sunday nights win over the Ironpigs. I was there and thought he was pretty sharp. 7 shutout innings.

Can you justify having that many young pitchers on your big league squad & Strasburg in the minors?

Homer has apparently developed a nice split finger pitch. One thing he's been lacking is a complentary pitch.
