St.Pat Coach

Featured Replies

I don't think any fans outside of St. Patrick cares who the coach is and furthermore I never understood this topic to begin with. Coach Douglas is the coach despite what official title the school has. She has done well. She is surrounded by talented ladies who work hard. Coach Buser was surrounded by talented kids, Coach Ormes was surrounded by talented kids in his successful years. Coach Kues at BB had great talent, Smooth over at Paris had great teams, Whitaker at Harrison County and list goes on and on. Sure the head coach has to work hard at their job and put their players in positions to compete, but players win games. Coaches refer to this as PMP, (players making plays). Like Sumo said, Calapari is successful by getting kids that are great players. The success of the coach for the most part is the end result of his/her players. To answer the last question imo, MC didn't snag him because he didn't apply. You gotta have your application in to be considered.

I am also not sure if Mason would hire a non teacher???

Thomasmoredad, your program was just fine under Coach Ormes, not taking anything away with the success that the current coach has enjoyed along with her kids. Every program goes through tough years and dips into a rebuilding mode much like Coach Ormes was in up until he was dismissed(and along with being dismissed he was grossly disrespected). If Bishop Brossart doesn't have Katie Schewgman and a supporting cast during their great run in the All A tournament in those years, guess who goes to the state and represents? Yes your St. Patrick Lady Saints! Coach Ormes would be the first to tell you that he was blessed with talent in his tenure, refrencing to the likes of Joanna Bess, the Klee sisters, Owens just to name a few. That is where his success was fuel by those great players, not what solely the head coach done. Much like your current coach Douglas, she is surrounded by great players and players win the games, coaches enjoy the success, the only thing that a head coach will ever take responsibility for is a loss or at least a good coach will do that.

Let the past be. These Lady Saints will be a exciting team to watch this season. Players do win games, good coaches however put there teams in position to win these games through training, discipline and TEACHING! The Lady Saints summer included tournaments in Columbus, Ohio (finished 2nd), Louisville at the Hoops (finished 2nd) and Washington D. C. (4 wins in 5 games) with some help from a Mason Co. and a Cov. Holmes girls. 450 college coaches and scouts where at D. C,. Every parent wants a coach that will go that extra mile for there child. We have one at St. Patrick.

I agree with you on all points and have never doubted the work that has been put in by the players and coach. The Lady Saints will be a tough out on anyones schedule, I never disputed that one. As far as the past and letting it be, I just responded to what another poster commented on above from St. Patrick with the previous coach and program. He was a good leader as well and has done a lot for kids over the year as well. Thats my opinion. The girls program overall at St. Pat over the past 10 years has enjoyed success. Best of luck!

We are just very lucky to have Coack Douglas and as far as I am concerned the program was in a downward spiral and no matter who was on the roster things were not getting better. Douglas is the best coach St Patrick girls have ever had and will be very exciting to watch for a few years to come. But thats just my opinion

From what I understand, the program may not exist in two years.

Tell us more please.

Is that the standard reply to all the St. Pat haters? You may not exist in two years. I find these attempts to scare of kids to be childish and stupid. The school has existed for 150 years. This is not the first economic crisis the region has suffered through nor will it be the last. The parish is the diocese are dedicated to its survival. It will continue.

I understood this to mean there would be no girls basketball in two years not that there would be no school.

I can understand this observation due to the fact there there is a shortage of players on the middle school level. Each year St. Patrick High school has new students who were formerly attending Catholic elementery schools in Ohio and Augusta so it remains to be seen what new students will sign up to play sports of any kind upon enrolling at St Pat.

Is there going to be an 8th grade team? It is ashame that the 5th grade last year couldn't have played up to help out the 7th grade team. They lost a year of practicing and competing due to a rule which is now thrown to the wayside. If there is no 8th grade team what is the chance of a freshman team 2010. I know you may get incoming freshmen but what is the chance of getting enough kids to be good enough to compete. I think St.Pat is a great school but was disappointed in the way the sports program was ran. Good Luck to Elaine Douglas who in my opinion is a class act and has the best interest of the girls. I wish well to the Lady Saints and really hope the program thrives.

I dont know how long St. Pat will be open as a school, and I believe Coach Douglas is a good coach. But when her daughter graduates from St. Pat, she will leave as well. I just dont see her staying after that.

imo where are you getting your information? The majority if not all of the graduates from St. Augustine go to Augusta, where they have played MS ball. If not they go to Bracken.

The issue is not athletics from what I hear around town here in Maysville...It's financial the school ha sa lot debt which might cause the closing

I din't say that all or most of the St Augustine kids go to St. Patrick, just saying that there are some kids that have and there is the posibility that some girls from St. Augustine could continue their Catholic education at St. Patrick in the future thus changing the demographics when it comes to athletics at St. Patrick.

"if not all" ... where are you getting your information? There were three students that I know of (maybe more) that entered the St Pat freshman class last year that were from Augusta and as far as I know were former students at St A, (or maybe they attended Augusta pulic school..idk) two of the three were girls and both girls participated in sports. Just saying that a couple of girls from St. A plus a couple from St. Michaels in Ripley and the number of girls playing ball could increase.

To correct myself, I was just informed that there were actually five incoming freshmen to St. Patrick that formerly attended St. Augustine. How many did St. A graduate in 2008? Just wondering?
