Absolutely that they would pick up ALL STUDENTS!!!

Absolutely that they would pick up ALL STUDENTS!!!

All students who could afford the tuition, and those parents who wanted to send their kids down the road to school instead of three blocks over.

So Douglass didn't have the teaching credentials in order to be considered for the job?

Just to clarify.....you do not have to have teaching credentials to coach hs basketball in Kentucky. To be a teacher in Ky you have to have a teaching degree or a teaching certificate. Teaching certificates are given to people who went to college to get a degree in something other than teaching but are considered quailified to teach a class in a related subject ...for instance a nurse who has a degree in nursing but not a teaching degree may be able to obtain from the state a teaching certificate to teach health class at a school.

Coaching in Ky according to the KHSAA requires that a coach have 63(?) college credit hours. They do not have to be in any special area. A coach does not have to have teaching credentials unless they are also seeking a job at the school in a teaching capacity. So unless she was applying for a teaching position, this whole issue of Douglas not having teaching credentials makes no sense. I seriously doubt she would apply for a teaching position since she is not a teacher.

On the bolded, was having a discussion this spring about this requirement that in theory sounds nice but in reality is stupid.

Baseball coaches, a person who has never even watched a baseball game but has a college degree would be eligible to be coach. Someone like Ken Griffey Jr who went from HS to professional baseball would not be.

Most schools require though that their Coach be a teacher and not a paraprofessional, that is why I was puzzled when I heard she applied for the job, because I think she only has 64 hours.

Which makes me ask this question....., does Brossart require their coaches to be teachers?

I totally agree. I have seen it happen...a teacher who never even played the sport now coaching it without a clue. KHSAA has reviewed this from what I am told and they say that the Ky Education Association is in favor of keeping that rule intact. Doesn't make sense to me.

I was told by an Ad here in Kenton Co. that after next year the 64 hr rule will be eliminated.

They have been saying that for years.

Bring back Coach Orme....:ylsuper:

You must be kidding. The program has advanced miles past where it used to be.:scared:

Is that because the talent is much better or is the coach much better? Is Coach Cal better with All Americans or All Staters???:idunno::idunno::idunno:

Thomasmoredad, your program was just fine under Coach Ormes, not taking anything away with the success that the current coach has enjoyed along with her kids. Every program goes through tough years and dips into a rebuilding mode much like Coach Ormes was in up until he was dismissed(and along with being dismissed he was grossly disrespected). If Bishop Brossart doesn't have Katie Schewgman and a supporting cast during their great run in the All A tournament in those years, guess who goes to the state and represents? Yes your St. Patrick Lady Saints! Coach Ormes would be the first to tell you that he was blessed with talent in his tenure, refrencing to the likes of Joanna Bess, the Klee sisters, Owens just to name a few. That is where his success was fuel by those great players, not what solely the head coach done. Much like your current coach Douglas, she is surrounded by great players and players win the games, coaches enjoy the success, the only thing that a head coach will ever take responsibility for is a loss or at least a good coach will do that.

Coach Douglas knows how to further develop the talent she has on her team. I say keep Coach Douglas.

I'm sure you Royal fans would rather St. Patrick bring back Coach Orme because the Lady Saints would be less of a threat to the Lady Royals. If Coach Orme is is so wonderful why didn't Mason County snatch him up last year after Busser retired????
