What is wrong with Gonzo now?

Per John Fay's blog:

Gonzalez was out of the lineup for rest.

“He’s been playing a lot,” Baker said. “I don’t want anyone to be out too long. I don’t want Janish to be out too long. I thought about tomorrow, but that’s not fair to Janish to give him one and got to face (Chris) Carpenter. Conditions aren’t real good out there. I thought today would be a good day.”

Other than the fact that he can't hit?

What is wrong with Gonzo now?

He'd played 11 straight days which had to be approaching a record for him--he's probably all tuckered out.

Nothing appears to be wrong, just wanted to get Janish some AB's and give Gonzo a day off. I see nothing wrong with that.

I think the primary skill of a two-hitter is to get on base for the big hitters in the 3-4-5 spots. If he has some power and can drive in the leadoff guy ... well, thats OK, too.

Too many old-school baseball fans have the image of a two-hitter as a speed-and-bat-control guy. As far as I'm concerned, that notion is outdated. Dusty Baker, for most of his career, has gone that way ... maybe he's become open to new ideas.

I think getting on base is part of it, but being a good bat control guy is what defines a good 2 hitter IMO.

Even if the role is defined as you think it its, Bruce is still a horrible candidate for a 2 man. Usually guys who handle the bat well do get on bas a lot.:thumb:

Reds lead 2-0. Brandon Phillips knocks in Cueto from 3rd to take a 2-0 lead.

Phillips then proceeds to steal 2nd on a pitchout.

Kyle Loshe has left the game due to an injury.

Chris Dickerson hit into a double play & almost hit us out of another inning. 1st & 2nd with 0 outs. Why does Dusty continue to let Dickerson hit into double plays? :irked:

Hernandez is a stud. Another 2 out RBI. I like what he bring to the lineup a lot.

That's the best deal Cincy has made in years.

Cowboy thinks we might see Maloney up for Voltron's start.

It's nice to have someone in Left that wants to play the field...

"Wants to" or "can play it well?"

No one ever questioned the "want to" for Dunn. It was simply ability.

The "wants to" only helps a team so much. LF is traditionally where you stick your worst OF and power hitter. So, you take 40/100/100 in exchange for some shoddy D.

How many runs do you think Dunn gave up that a "wants to" LFer would not have?
