Zero turn lawn mower

I've priced these at Lowe's and Home Depot. There around $3000 for a 42" to 50". Has anyone used these and are they worth the price. Lowe's has a 50" Troy Built on clearance for $2400 but I haven't found out if that is a good brand or not. Any info would be appreciated, thanks!

It depends on how big a land you want to mow. If you have something under an acre, it may not be worth the expense.

My experience with zero turns has been the larger the yard, the better they are. You can mow in straight lines with much more speed. However, if you have a lot of turns and trees to negotiate, they will leave "skid" marks in the yard when the mower turns. I've mowed five acres of mostly open land in about 3 1/2 hours before. Not fast but not a snail's pace either.

That's a good deal on the 50" Troy Built. I have one for my Lawn Care business and it's had some problems, but that's expected when you use it as much as I do. Very god mower, especially if you're just going to be using it for you're own yard. You shouldn't run into many problems at all if that's the case.

Troy Built is a good mower. That is probably a good price, but what is the horse power? Before you buy, you should check other places than just Lowes and Home Depot. SCAG makes a good zero turn, as well as Hustler. Stay away from John Deere. They are good mowers, but way over priced.

I have one but it is geared more to the commercial side of mowers and it is great. I have to make a lot of turns at times and it doesn't leave any marks unless its wet out.

I agree if it's not a big yard then you don't need it. I worked a summer at a Power Plant before I started college. It was amazing on the big job. Of course coming out of high school we were burninig up the doughnuts lol. I also worked some on the side cutting grass for a professional lawn service. He had a couple of nice one's for the huge yards. They are definatly nice and handy. If it's not a large yard and you aren't doing it as a business then I don't think they are worth paying the extra couple thousand that a riding mower costs.

I'm partial to the kohler engine. Just bought a Troy built at Lowe's wanted the zero turn, but couldn't afford it. I just replaced a 17 year old Craftsman with a kohler engine still runs great just other parts were worn out.

Dont get one if you have any steep hills that need to be mowed.

I echo that sentiment. My Craftsman remains stable, but the zero turn slides sideways all the way down the hill. Not good.....and had to change the shorts after that one!

Yes I had a similar experience except I had to bail before it flipped. A new pair of drawers were in order for me too.

I have a John Deer zero turn. Use to take me 3 hrs. to mow my lawn, now I can do it in 1 hour. IMO these are the very best.
