Valedictorian Athlete Dilemma

Featured Replies

You're the valedictorian and its tradition that the valedictorian gives a speech at the high school graduation. Its a big deal.

You're also a baseball/softball player whose team is playing in the region tournament on the night at the same time. You can't do both.

Now what?

You play in the game.

Exactly!!:thumb:

Video tape the speech and play it on the projection screen.

Go with your team to regionals.

Very good idea! :thumb:

What a fight this would cause. Dad and son or daughter says game, mom says graduation.

Let the kid choose. If he/she is valedictorian, he/she should be capable of deciding for his/her self.

:thumb: Absolutely. For me, I would choose to play. But I would NEVER hold it against a kid for deciding what was most important to them at that time. Either is a big deal. Sounds like a quality kid IMHO.

I think the video idea is awesome. With technology today, it would almost appear to be live.

Great idea! Definitely play in the game.:thumb:

As someone who gave a speech at their high school graduation and knowing how proud a moment that was for me that's likely what I would choose.

I agree with that. I did the opening prayer at my graduation, and that was a wonderful honor I will cherish. However, given the choice, I would have chosen to play.

Obviously I didn't have to prove my ability to spell SPEECH in order to give one.

Is there an embarrassed smiley available?
