Theoldguy Posted May 18, 2009 Posted May 18, 2009 CovCath 9 Cov Holmes 0 In the opening game of the 35th District Baseball Tournament at CovCath. More later.....
Theoldguy Posted May 19, 2009 Author Posted May 19, 2009 My guess is Coach Krumps will be more than a tad upset with the play of the Colonels after the game today, as IMO, CovCath did not play very well at all. In fact it was IMO the worst game that I have seen the Colonels play this entire year. Holmes if their "D" hadn't completely gone south with five errors which gave CovCath five unearned runs, they would have been in this game. Far too often CovCath took themselves out of the inning and not by Holmes playing quality smart baseball. Trust me if CovCath had been up against anyone other than Holmes today, they would have lost this game. Now was the poor played caused by CovCath being over confident, the upcoming graduation of the seniors on Tuesday, or just having a bad day? :idunno: The good: Nutini pitched a rather good game today, going a complete 7 innings while giving up only 2 hits and shutting out Holmes. Nute also had a good day at the plate as he scored two runs, knocked in three and got two hit. Siemer had two hits and freshmen Lankheit got a hit and did a good job behind the plate to give Maile some rest today. The infield turned two DP's today (1) 6-4-3 (2) 1-6 The bad: The infield had three errors today, all in the sixth and seventh but it didn't hurt the team. The ugly: Taking themselves out of the inning, by silly base running mistakes and failing to execute plays. The CovCath hitting: Nutini 4 AP 2 runs 2 hits 3 rbi's 2 sb and reached base via E-6 Siemer 4 PA 2 hits Maile 2 PA 2 walks and 1 sb B Reese 1 cs Lankheit 2 PA and 1 hit Darner 4 PA 1 run 1 hit double 1 rbi (60) and 1 walk Isler 4 PA and 2 walks Ritter 1 run Holocher 3 PA 2 runs 1 walk 1 K and reached base via E-2 Lafever 3 PA 2 runs 1 hit 1 walk and reached base via E-5 Schlagbaum 3 PA 1 run 1 hit and 1 rbi Martin 3 PA 1 rbi and 1 sac fly CovCath pitching Nutini (5-2) 85 pitches 7 complete innings 25 PA 2 hits 0 runs 0 earned runs 2 walks 1 k 1 WP CovCath is now 30-3-1 and will play the winner of the Beechwood vs Cov Holy Cross game on Wednesday May 20 @ CovCath at 5pm.
Theoldguy Posted May 19, 2009 Author Posted May 19, 2009 Holmes hitting: Jensen 3 PA reached base via E-6 and 1 cs Gregory 3 PA Riley 3 PA 1 walk Courtney 3 PA 2 hits (nice game young man) Wells 3 PA Hatton 3 PA 1 fc and reached base via E-1 Reed 3 PA Baldrich 2 PA Hailey 2 PA 1 walk and reached base via E-4 Holmes pitching: Courtney 121 pitches 5 complete innings 29 PA 7 hits 9 runs 4 earned runs 7 walks 1 k 2 wp Poe, Dustin 6 pitches 1 complete inning 3 PA 1 hit
thebigfella23 Posted May 19, 2009 Posted May 19, 2009 Maile left the game limping. How was he after the game?
Theoldguy Posted May 19, 2009 Author Posted May 19, 2009 Maile left the game limping. How was he after the game? Raking the field around home plate as per usual after the game. He is fine. CovCath didn't need Maile today, so it gave Krumps a chance to see how young Jake Lankheit would do in a tourney game and Jake stepped up and did a great job behind the plate and with a bat in his hand Congrats young man.

What happened to Dylan Cottingham? He was the starting catcher for JV.
Clyde Posted May 19, 2009 Posted May 19, 2009 With this win the boys now get to go out and buy new cleats for the turf at Champion Window Field. Woo hoo!!
Bwood Posted May 19, 2009 Posted May 19, 2009 (edited) What happened to Dylan Cottingham? He was the starting catcher for JV. Was wondering the same thing, anyone? Edited May 19, 2009 by corked correction

katbird Posted May 19, 2009 Posted May 19, 2009 That is interesting! I will put out the Bird Call to his Dad! Could get very interesting....
Blue Magic Posted May 19, 2009 Posted May 19, 2009 Maile left the game limping. How was he after the game? My understanding was he fouled a ball off of his leg (maybe his shin or knee) and was taken out of the game. I don't think Luke needed a rest when they only have 2 games this week  :idunno:
goaheadandjump Posted May 19, 2009 Posted May 19, 2009 Dylan is an excellent catcher and I think he plays summer ball for Bob Myerhoff. Seems strange to bypass him......anyway this is not unusual for a team like this to have a game like this in the first game of districts.
