Guys, I can't disagree with you either. Just remember, if you ever receive an invite to go to a Carter Co. graduation, DON'T GO. You'll be disappointed. It's just socially accepted now that people are going to scream, and the best you can hope for is no air horns and such.

We do live in a society in which the general thought is "I don't have to follow the rules." Being asked to hold your applause and expressions of jubilation...who has to expect to follow those expectations?

I think the phrase, "Hold your applause to the end" is ignorance, IMO. Graduating from high school or college is something to be celebrating. There is nothing wrong with a quick yell for someone. I firmly believe this.

 

I know the counterarguement of "wasting to much time", but if you were at NKU's graduation this past Saturday, you wouldn't use that as an arguement cause it was smooth even with tons of cheers.

 

I completely agree. When I graduated, I liked when my family and friends cheered. I think graduating high school is comsething to celebrate and it's an exciting moment in everyones life. The whole "holy your appplause" thing is, for lack of better terms, dumb IMO.

In my experience it is done so everyone feels the same. Some kids will have the entire gym shouting, and other kids barely get any applause. I don't have a problem with it either way, but I can see both sides of the argument.

Your position is whatever you want, doesn't mean it's "correct". It's an opinion, and you know what they say about opinions.

Graduation is not about ONE kid. It's a celebration of many. That's what we forget. There are plenty of cheers and applause at a graduation ceremony during appropriate times. There doesn't need to be for each individual.

 

Again, the "ME" mindset is too ingrained.

Seriously, it's a no-brainer. Right is right, and you don't act like jerks in a dignified public event -- especially after being specifically asked not to. People that self-centered should be tossed out of the event on their ear.

I attended a graduation recently where this announcement was made. My son and I then had an over/under on how many kid's names would be called before someone's family made a horse's rear of themselves. I had 4. I was way too high.

 

One family even brought a freaking drum and beat on it when their graduate was called.

 

Why can't people refrain from showing their ignorance?
