If he can get back to being completely health (which is a big question mark) but if he can. Then he can be a very good LT again. Not to mention if he played against us twice year, he would probably be a little motivated to prove that we messed up getting rid of him. Now obviously as I said he would need to be completely healthy, because if he is not healthy. Then he would go back to being Lookout, and would even make us look like we have a good pass rush.
May 6, 200917 yr The bottom line is he had no trade value. They tried to deal him last year too, and there was nothing out there. He was not an asset to the team at this point, cut your losses and move on.
May 7, 200917 yr It's one of those that you have to think ahead in my opinion HB. It's much like CJ IMO. They waited to long to pull the trigger on him too. I agree with you. I think keeping him gives you depth and just as important competition.
May 7, 200917 yr Author The guy isn't going to sit there quietly in a backup role. Plus, when the world knows he's going to be released, no-one will trade anything for him. They'll just sit back a wait. As for depth, I think they'll be hurting a little at that tackle position. If Smith or Collins were to go down, Whitworth would fill in, but after him, there really isn't much there. As for the starting lineup, I think it will look something like this (from left to right): Collins - Whit - Santucci/Luigs - Williams - Smith How in the heck can you give away his job without even letting Smith have one real practice? :lol: It's a terrible move IMO, and yes he will sit there if he's a back up. He's not that high profile of a guy, making a fuss wouldn't really do that much IMO. I think he should have been given an opportunity because he does have talent, might as well keep him for depth. To be honest, I think the Bengals O-line is going to be terrible next year.

For some on here, regardless of what the BENGALS do, they are gonna complain to no end! It is just how it goes! I hope the last comment was not directed at me. I am not complaining, as I do not care when the Bengals make stupid moves. I simply think a lot of the moves they make are bad. As of right now, I can't remember the last time I've seen a move they have made and thought, "that was smart".

Now with a 1st round pick at the same spot, there was no need for Levi, because he won't be a backup in Cincy. What in the world makes you think he'll sit there quickly in a backup role? The guy has been crying for a trade the past couple years. He's thrown fits when not in the lineup. There's no way he quietly sits there as a backup.

The Bengals should have tried to trade him before the draft. They knew they could get one of the top tackles with the 6th pick... After they got one they lost their leverage in trading him. Everyone knew they didn't want him anymore and that if they couldn't find a trading partner they were simply going to release him.

Signing Lavernous Coles wasn't smart? Drafting Rey Meuleuga in the 2nd round wasn't smart? Yet they keep Chad Johnson? The Bengals should have tried to trade him before the draft. They knew they could get one of the top tackles with the 6th pick... After they got one they lost their leverage in trading him. Everyone knew they didn't want him anymore and that if they couldn't find a trading partner they were simply going to release him. You're missing the point. Levi Jones didn't have any trade value last season, this offseason, or yesterday. Everyone knew that Jones was in danger of being released long before they drafted Smith. If you'd follow the Bengals more closely, you'd realize that Jones has been disgruntled for a while. A poor attitude, poor health & poor work ethic doesn't last long in the NFL. As a backup with his attitude he would do more harm than good IMO. :thumb: The Bengals may make an attempt to re-sign Jones at a lower rate.
