Best new coach?

Featured Replies

I would say Most if not schools in kentucky are completely different areas in the world of coaching when compared to ST. X or T.

Especially out in the state where you have stat keepers trying to dictate and run certain programs. Some places people may be tooooo involved.

Just beacause you come from a traditionally strong program, their is no guarantee that you will succed as a Head Coach. I believe that the precedent has been set with certain Coaches in a traditional power program.

Most of the ones that have set that precedent at a certain Louisville power were truely not from the school but used it as a pitstop to get a head job.

So you are saying that you have to be "bred" at the school to be a successful Head Coach?

I think it would be interesting to see a list of guys from X or T that were not the head coach who have gone on to become head coaches. What were there records and how successful were they?

I know that Andrew Coverdale is a great football coach and he struggled at Castle. I believe he was 16 - 17 in 3 years and Castle has a very strong football tradition.

There is a reason why coaches at X and Trinity get there and stay. Can anyone name some others and the success that followed them?

No, but to lump all the ones that haven't succeded b/c they coached at a powerhouse is saying that any of them wont make a good coach is just as wrong. I am just saying it couldn't hurt. It dosen't guarentee but could only help them succeed.

Lonnie Oldham did fine. The coach at Easten now was at Trinity.

You also have to compare how the programs were before and after they were there. Many had inherited some terrible programs that were so low odwn that improvement cannot be measured by wins and loses.

Lonnie Oldham way under achieved at Oldham. Not many people will say he did fine.

He is a an excellent coach, had a great stint at Seneca as well.

I would coach with him or hire him any day of the week.

I don't think that Lonnie's troubles had anything to do with on field situations. I think that he left Seneca on his own accord, but I heard that his contract was not renewed in Cincinnati or at OC. If my statements are inaccurate please advise.

When was Eastern's coach at Trinity.

I think Coach Poynter at Bourbon Co. will get that ship turned around and headed in the right direction.

With out question Larry French must be at the top of the list.

Has Larry French got a new job?
