April 29, 200917 yr Anyone know much about chihuahuas? My wife and I just purchased one 4 months ago. I have learned a lot in these 4 months. There is no such thing as teacup chihuahuas, so don't go to a breeder asking for one, they will get offended. The smaller the chihuahua the more likely that it will suffer from health issues, smaller organs, etc. They will be your best friend and not let too many people around you so meet the parents first to see their temperment, the puppy will likely be like them. Indoor dog, all the way and they are very needy, they need almost constant attention. I have never had an indoor dog, much less one that weighs less than 4 pounds, therefore, I could not believe how much attention they require. They can get very lonely and the best part is, they can live very long lives, up to 20+ years. Mine sleeps on his back on my pillow and trys to mimmick the way I sleep, laying on his back. They are a lifetime of love. I know a very reputable breeder from Shively, Kentucky.

That's you AD j/k I'm about to buy a house and I'll be getting a female Boxer, anythings I should know, I know the white ones are prone to being deaf, and they can have issues with the hips? Anything that I might not know about. Do you breed dogs? I thought of that, actually, during these discussions. "Here comes Debbie Downer." To put it simply, I know how overcome people can get at the thought of getting a puppy. The excitement of getting a new dog, etc. I've been that way before in the past, and was bitten in the end. I have considered breeding one of my pugs, but if I did, it would simply be to stud him out. I don't have the space to maintain a proper breeding kennel. As for boxers, I'm not sure why, but the white boxers are prone to being deaf. I have owned a Pug who became deaf, and he quickly learned hand motions, so you're not hopeless if you get one that loses it's hearing. The major concern with Boxers is heart problems. They can also be prone to skin allergies, but a lot of breeds are. Older Boxers are more prone to tumors than other breeds. You are right about the possibility of hip dysplasia, but again, a lot of breeds are prone to this (IMO, because of overbreeding). If you're going to get a Boxer, make sure you are the pack leader and always have the dog under your voice control. Boxers will also need to be exercised daily.
April 29, 200917 yr All dogs mentioned are very good dogs and should serve the little dog purpose you are looking for. I for one like a good Dachshund (wiener dog) and nice looking pair you got there Rocket. If you do get the urge to go a little bigger though you should look into a Basset Hound, I have one and she is the sweetest, best behaved, and best charactered dog I have ever had. Ate up with personality.

April 29, 200917 yr My only gripe about dachshunds are that they can be yappy. I love them, ... have one now, had one for 10 years before. Great dogs. But you are right, they can be yappy. We can't leave the front door open where she can see out of the storm door because she will stand there and bark at anything that moves. She also can hear the big dog if he goes up and lays on the front porch. She loves little kids, .... can't get enough of them and wants all their attention. But overall, except for being yappy, she is a very good dog.
April 29, 200917 yr Short Haired Mini-Dachshund! I've had one for 10 years and she has been awesome. Around 12 pounds. This is the way to go.
April 29, 200917 yr Author This is my CHI, Winston. So cute! The only reason I was talking about teacup ones is because I got on a few breeder's websites, and they referred to a few of them as teacup. I just assumed they were a real thing. About how much does this person charge?
