I read Dana White's comments on the fights and he was very angry at Silva and his manager for his performance. I can't blame Silva as the guy would just flop on the ground and try to turn the fight into a grappling fight everytime he threw a punch at him. Chuck Liddell defended Silva for what happened and I think that says alot. Dana needs to chill and take a second look at the fights before getting angry over a situation and making comments he might regret about them.

I think GSP is closer to beating Spider than most on here are willing to concede. After watching that fight last night, I am sure GSP can do better than that. If Spider doesn't give more of an effort, than it would be a short night...with GSP prevailing.

 

GSP would have about as much of a shot at beating Silva as Michael Porter making it to the NBA. He couldn't overpower him on the ground like he does everyone else he fights, and I don't know if anyone could handle Silva standing up.

Now there are accusations of Silva greasing prior to the start of the fight...if you watch his entrance in the cage he does wipe access vasoline, from his face on, his chest and arms. More drama to add to a non-drama filled night! From what I read he may only have 4 more fights on his contract so why not make 3 of them title fights (Light Heavy, Heavy and possibly Welter Weight Title at a catch weight with GSP???) Then we can finish it off with a UFC legend, Couture...Would be a great way to go out!!!

I caught bits and pieces of the Liddell/Shogun fight online, but didn't see much else. Guess I didn't miss much.

 

It wasnt a bad card it was just that the main event was a real buzz kill. I think it left a sour taste in a lot of mouths.

You can't find for the welterweight title at a catch weight.

I dont think its a very good division either but I dont think that is the reason he is so good. I think he could whip most of the LHW division in the UFC and that is the best division going in MMA.

Do you really believe that Silva wouldn't bring his "A" game against a fighter of GSP's caliber? It would be a great fight. I think that Silva's length would hurt GSP.

The "Ice-Man" needs to think about a new career path @ this point! he looks old and tired and finished!

 

I would love to see "The Spider" & GSP hook up. Maybe on the same card as Rashaad Evans and Rampage!

Ooops yeah total brain cramp. Must have had Griffin on the brain. But Sugar Rashad would also be a nice fight for Silva if he through on about 10 or so, I like Evans' striking ability as much as any of the other talented strkers in 205.

If anything it was sweat, Silva came in wearing like three layers of shirts, one being an Adidas warm-up, long sleeve, zip up type deal.

As far as Silva goes I understand the basis for some of the different opinions. Like how he was unimpressive in this fight, and how he is just a good fighter in a bad class.

 

However, I think its not the total truths. Again I understand the basis, but its just not it. Silva fought the way he was supposed to against Leites. I mean why go in wild afer somebody and take a chance of getting caught just so you can make it interesting. It takes two people to fight not just one. It was obvious Anderson wanted to, but Thales was way too cautious, thus resulting in a horrible looking fight. To me Silva looked on his gamelike he always does. Leites may have landed 15 shots the whole twenty five minutes of the bout, and fifteen may even be a high number. Everytime Silva would go into an attack Leites would try a weak attempt to shoot, then end up on his back. Again only way I know to put it is it takes two to fight and to make a good fight. Silva moved well, couldn't be touched, and had Leites in trouble on a couple different occasions and those oppurtunities didn't come much being Thales was so timid.

 

 

As for being a good fighter in a bad class. Yes he is a good fighter and yes it is a bad class, but don't let that keep you from thinking Anderson Silva isn't one of the baddest men to hop inside the octagon. Anytime your so dangerous that one mistake can cost you the fight, then your not just an alright guy in a weak division. Anderson's strikes are so versatile and he can beat you in ways that you never even knew possible. He's so quick, so long, and can be so explosive. The way he moves reminds me of Roy Jones Jr. in his prime, I mean its just so smooth and fineese but dangerous all at the same time. He snaps off his leg kicks quicker than almost anybody in MMA, and anytime you are that long and as an opponet you still dont see it coming sometimes, then you are bad. So to wrap up this statement, Anderson "The Spider" Silva is still one of the baddest dudes in MMA, no doubt about it, and if you don't think so (especially because of the class he fights in) you need to go back and refigure your thinking.

Silva/GSP is something I'm not interested in, Silva cuts more weight than anyone in MMA(some reports he gets up to 230lbs) and he would overpower GSP.

 

He is a great MMA striker, and his length is going to pose problems for all the 185 division but he wants none of the top of the food chain in the 205lbs division.
