That is my point. It is about connections, it isn't always about how good of a coach you are. I met Coach Cotton in 2002 after moving to Lexington and began following the area's high school football and it seems he has done well every where he has been.

 

My degree is in Business Administration, maybe I should go back to school and get a law degree and become an agent. I would make a lot more money than i do now.

Oh I don't really know about his situation...I was referring to the age discrimination in general that happens to younger coaches.

 

 

Back on topic: Greg Duncum at Corbin. Even though he is not coaching this year, he was a former head coach at North Laurel and returned to Corbin as an assistant. He is a quality person and coach. He will be a good one if he decides to return to coaching.

 

Greg is the only coach to ever have back to back winning seasons at North Laurel. When he took over a 1-9 team in then Class 4A, they had 19 players frosh thru senior. When he left, it was coming off back to back winning seasons, nearly upsetting Scott Co (the eventual 4A state runnerup) at Scott County, and North Laurel had around 45-50 players on the roster. If after his 2 sons are out of high school he decides to get back into coaching, he would be a great one to get. The one job I think he would jump at would be the Lynn Camp job when Mitchell retires. Those are his kind of kids. They play hard and love to hit. I agree, quality person and coach. My son played for him and I would let any child or grandchild of mine to play for him in a heartbeat.

I would love to see Eddie Creech groomed for the Harlan County Job.

 

Eddie will make a fine head coach one of these days whether it is at Harlan Co or somewhere else.

Eddie Creech was a standout QB/DB at Cumberland High School, graduated (I believe in 2003). He is currently teaching at JACES and an assistant coach at HCHS. Knows both sides of the ball very well for a young coach. Well respected by the young men.

Just a matter of time until JAMIE BROWN -- who did a great job coaching O-Line with us at Ballard last year -- takes over somewhere and has a great career.

 

He's an absolute 'football junkie' who knows the game inside-and-out, has probably read every book related to football there is (I tried to find a book to give him as a 'thank you' for this past season and he'd already read all the ones I got!), and has a pretty impressive resume (St. X Head Freshman coach -- which means he ran the 3rd largest high school program in the state, on football staff at U. of Michigan under Lloyd Carr, and has experience on the public high school side as well at Fern Creek and Ballard).

 

Also has great connections to COLLEGE COACHES; something that can help get his players recruited.

 

One of those coaches I've had that I completely turned loose to run his practice drills at his position exactly the way he wanted. Taught a group of guys that had never been exposed to it every aspect of the "Zone" run system and got them VERY good at it. Ran our special teams in addition to O-Line. The kids at his position LOVED him too (probably the best compliment a coach can get).

 

...and when he gets his certification work done, his brother DAMON is going to be a good one too.

 

Hurt for us, but teaching in one school (Male) and coaching at Ballard didn't work out geographically for SHAWN THOMPSON who ran our defense. He and Damon put together a pass-defense that forced Trinity into 4 picks in our playoff game against them. Only a matter of time until Shawn is back somewhere as a great 'defensive-minded' head coach.
