Sounds like a little jealousy due to the fact that Russell got dominated by Ashland last year. Ashland is at a disavantage due to the fact that they have been playing with schools with a bigger enrollment then themselves. But in the 2012 season, I believe Ashland will be dropping down a class so I look for them to be back in the contention then. The fact that they got 2nd in their region last year after a 2-8 season makes me believe that they will be fine.

So who do you see as the representative of this region?

I realize it is the dead period but how have 7 on 7 scrimmages and practice gone so far? Just curious.............

I also heard that upcoming senior Ben Stringer set a new team record for cleans in his weight division. If the Tomcats can continue to develop their line then I look for big things from Ashland.

 

I was talking to a assistant coach the other day and he seemed to be very pleased with the Tomcat progress.He told me the line was not big but was a bunch of hard working yes sir -no sir type guys.I personally like the sounds of this kind of attitude.:thumb:

The problem is the district they are matched up against in the first round of the playoffs. It offers little chance for them to ever advance. They run into Fort Thomas or Covington Catholic right out of the gates and that's too bad. Russell and Raceland are fortunate in that they get easier districts in their first round playoff matchups. They don't run into hard teams until the 3rd or 4th round of the playoffs.

I think you’re right ryanparker. Playing in the 5A district that we’re in (Woodford, Montgomery, Bryan Station and Johnson Central) has actually been good for us – made us stronger, IMO. I agree in that games against the stronger teams are more fun to anticipate and watch. Ashland fans get to look forward to a great game pretty much every week on their schedule. Greenup and Boyd are probably the weakest teams on there and at least those are "rivalry" games. Fans of other area teams, however, have a few "dud" weeks mixed in.

 

If Ashland can get their line playing strong, then I look for this to be one of the better Ashland teams in a while.

I feel for Ashland having to play the Northern Kentucky district so early, I really do. We had to do it for years, and it is no cake walk.

 

With that said, I think Ashland will have a very good team this year, they should have the number two spot in the district locked up, and have an excellent chance at the number one spot.

Graybeard, it is good to hear from you again! I am so excited about football season. I know we don't actually play until game 2 but I can't wait to get on the Putnam Stadium field. That's a great atmosphere and we love playing you guys. Take it easy on us this year. Don't take all you aggression out at one time.

I got to watch Ian Holbrook and Drew McDavid work out at Putnam Stadium for about an hour last night. Drew has really grown. He is getting ready to go to Georgetown's camp and wanted Ian to throw for him. Drew will be a junior this year and said that it looks like he will be starting at TE. He sure looks big enough to handle the job.

 

Drew still has great hands and it was fun to watch them. Drew is such a fine young man, Georgetown is lucky to have him.

I can understand some of your concerns Graybeard. I was expressing some of the same type concerns with Raceland before last season, all teams have to work hard to accompish what they want to do and can do.

Ashland has a class program from the the coaches, players and fans..... all top notch. I believe that the Tomcats will have a great season and certainly be a force in our area and beyond.....let's face it, you are loaded. :eek:

Good to hear from you Jericho51. It's about time to get serious about football. I like the sounds of the linemen's attitude too. I've heard they have put up some new records in the weight room. They will be a big key to the team's success. I hope to get to watch them in practice soon - maybe I'll see you there.

Rut row scrappy, it sounds like Ashland has found the piece of the puzzle they were missing - a line. I think Ashland is going to much better then most people think. I just hope Raceland can keep it respectable. Sincerely.
