April 7, 200917 yr On Mike and Mike this morning, an interesting question was posed. Would anyone off of this title team make the all-time UNC starting 5? Think about how deep talent has run at UNC: Jordan Worthy Perkins Wallace Stackhouse Carter Jamison May McCants Felton Montross Lynch Cunningham Daugherty McAdoo Jones Fox Walter Davis Hubert Davis etc. What do you guys think?

I listened to that this morning. I don't know if you can pick just 5 but here's a shot. Having to fill each position according to where they should be. PG Phil Ford. No one else is possible IMO. If he had today's athletes around him he would have been even more of a phenom. His game didn't translate into the NBA like others but he was a 4 year starter that could score, dish, play defense and lead. SG Michael Jordan. Nothing need be said. Although he was a much greater pro than college player. SF Tough one. Walter Davis was very, very good. But so was McCants and a host of other choices. Can't go wrong with any of them. PF James Worthy. Awesome. Great player. Left after Junior year. C UNC has never had all-time type Centers. So in my mind you have to go with May or Hansboro or Brad Daugherty. Bob McAdoo would have been great off the bench as a PF/C type guy.
April 7, 200917 yr Would anyone off of this title team make the all-time UNC starting 5? NOPE! Ironically, they gave the best all-time performance in an NCAA Championship game in the 1st half. They can always hang their hats on that...right next to their NCAA championship ring.
April 8, 200917 yr Not a big UNC fan but I respect their program and tradition, and also like many of the players they have produced. My all time Tar Heel team would be 1.)Raymond Felton (would be the perfect point to run this team) 2.)MJ (I mean who else would you want right here) 3.)Jerry Stackhouse (Stack was the man back at UNC and has been an underrated pro) 4.)James Worthy (Alongside Psycho T, would be a great complimentary front court.) 5.)Tyler Hansborough (Guys one of the best college players ever, may not translate to the nba but he has played with more passion than about any other Tar Heel) Sixth Man: Vince Carter Other key subs McAdoo Jamison Montross Mccants This team is made back in hindsight of their college careers and time spent at UNC. If taking whole careers into perspective then my team would probably be a little different. You take the guys mentioned though, put them in a Tar Heel uniform at the peek of their Tar Heel career then you have a team who's tough to beat. (Although I'll take 96' Kentucky against anyone in college basketball )

I would like to see these guys line up and play Issel, Mashburn, Givens, Delk, Robey, and Macy.

PG Ed Cota - He is third alltime assist man for division one. SG Jordan - Can't have an all time team with MJ. SF Stackhouse - The ultimate slasher. PF Worthy - Must have Big Game James on this team C Wallace- At 6"11", he is the best college center to play at UNC The only question mark I would have is at PG, when you have Ford, Lawson and Felton, but its hard to argue with Cota's numbers.

You might be right since we only got to see him for 2 years. However Sam Perkins doesn't have to take back seat either nor does Brad Daugherty. One point guard I forgot and no one is mentioning is Kenny Smith from the '84 to '86 and now dishing the rock on TBS NBA. :thumb:

April 8, 200917 yr Still won back-to-back National POY awards in college. Ignoring his pro career, he'd still be the 2 on UNC's all-time team. Actually he only won it his last year. 1981 - 1983 the award belonged to Ralph Sampson in the Naismith & Rupp Version, and '82 and '83 in the Wooden Awards. My statement was more in the lines that while unstoppable in the NBA, he was not unstoppable at UNC. Ask Georgia and Indiana from his last 2 years. :thumb:

Regardless, I'm in agreement with you.
April 8, 200917 yr Nobody on the starting five. Ty Lawson might make the team though. :thumb:Not a chance anyone else makes a roster of 15. Would be unlikely that Lawson makes it but at the pg position he has a chance.
