Here is my problem, Tom J. gave in to the powers that be again and showed his lack of respect for High School Sports. Even Mitch B. had the Cats play the NIT game in the little gym so as not to displace the KY High School finals in Rupp. How much money did UK lose with that move? They did show that they value High School Sports.

I don't see a rematch this season.

Surely the Tigers will be good enough to get through the playoffs for a rematch against the Rocks.

Tom Jurich does not have a say when it comes to ESPN telecasts. ESPN owns the rights to Big East football and UofL and any other conference team plays the game when TV dictates. Why do you think we still do not have a time for the UK/Bama game? TV dictates the time. As far as the UK NIT game, this had nothing to do with TV contracts or Mitch wanting to help the KHSAA. They played in Memorial because Rupp was booked in advance pure and simple. Back in the late 80's UofL actually played an early NIT game in Broadbent Arena because Freedom Hall was booked in advance.

This stinks for UK fans! One way or the other you will have to miss a great game. I will most likely go to the UK game because I expect that there will be a rematch of St.X vs. T.

 

But if you go to the X/T game, your team might actually win. :banana:

For those that are criticizing Jurich with this move, he would rather play the Thursday or Saturday game....BUT he has no choice. UK will do the same in the near future, especially with ESPN adding the SEC. It sucks, but money rules all.

I will always believe Jurich could have blocked out that date. If you study the total ESPN broadcast package listed on the Big East website, there were all sorts of alternatives. I also think it is laughable the the KHSAA moved the finals out of Papa John's and the mighty Cards do not play anyone the first weekend of December.

UofL does own the stadium and it's their revenue loss. I am sure they have their reasons. We can only continue to speculate. As far as the Friday game, this is UofL's only Nationally televised game for the 2009 season. They need all of the exposure they can get. It's sad what two years have done to this once building program.

No one gave the Cats a shot to beat LSU when they were #1 either. The Cats are always tough at home and this will be the best defense in many years.

I understand your defenses, and maybe it is selfishness that I experience that does not want to lose the Football Playoffs, the moving of the X & T game. With the contacts and power that he posesses, I do not understand how he could not have worked something out to accomodate the Finals.

Not true, U of L doesn't have a game in December (unless they get a bowl game invitation for later in the month). The Big East could schedule U of L , if they so desired, on a Thursday at home. I'm blasting Jurich for not being a little more forceful. The Big East does not own Papa John's. The Big East could have the Cardinals end their season (like this coming season) in November or on a Thursday night in December every other year.

 

The City of Louisville is the loser in this deal. There's a great deal of money spent in Louisville during those 6 games. The local fans and kids also lose out as many will not be able to make the trek to Bowling Green for the potential rematch this year in 6A.

 

Football players everywhere used to look forward to playing in Louisville.

 

Ultimate control of the rights to Papa John's Cardinal Stadium every weekend from August through December by the Big East was never explained publicly when the Cards made the jump to the Big East.
