The "All A Classic, State Championship, or not?

Featured Replies

They can acknowledge the fallacy that it is a state title if they want, I am just voicing my opinion that it is not a true state title. What is the point of even having the KHSAA if there are "state titles" in KHSAA sanctioned sports that are not sponsored by the KHSAA?

I'd compare what you're talking about to the BCS in NCAA Football. There is no official NCAA national title, only champions as designated by the BCS and other associations.

You can downgrade it all you want by calling it a fallacy. That doesn't change the view of the teams that participate in it.

Which is another concept I take issue with as well. :thumb:

At this point far be it from me to try to keep those who want to believe in something from doing so.

Maybe Santa will bring them something special while they continue to believe in things that do not exist.

It does exist, whether you choose to accept it or not.

I suspect we better get back on topic before we get our wrists slapped.

Okay, I promise I will drop it after asking one last question.

If a "state title" can be a true state title outside of the purview of the KHSAA then what is the point of having the KHSAA?

The KHSAA has chosen not to implement a class system for most sports. The All A Classic was a response to that.

The All A Classic doesn't pretend to be a substitute for the Sweet 16 in basketball or the state tournament in other sports. It simply gives small schools a chance to excel and earn some statewide recognition.

Does that make it "a state tournament?" Maybe not in some people's eyes, but in others it does.

I suspect I can accept that explanation. Even though I do not believe that a number of people believing something is true makes it so. As the regulatory body of High School Athletics in this state has its own state tournament, and the All A isn't it, I am of the mind set that there is only one state title in KY for that sport.

We have road signs and trophies and pictures on the gym wall.

They are state championships.

That's the reality for the Class A schools, at least in eastern Kentucky.

You can call it what you want in Louisville.

You know what, we need to cut this stuff out in this thread. I am the most guilty party involved here too.

Any chance a mod can take all the posts regarding the "A Classic" and morph it into a thread for the Basketball forum? I don't want to take away from the football discussion any more than I already have. It is the more important sport after all.

Thoughts?

Amen to that! I think everyone can agree football is the #1 sport. :ylsuper:

Thank you Ram!
