The "All A Classic, State Championship, or not?

Featured Replies

I agree that each sport needs to be classed. I thought we were headed that way when the All A started like 20 years ago, but apparently not.

The All "A" was the perfect compromise.

The small schools can compete for a state championship, and it is a state championship no matter how much some like to downplay it, and still make it to Rupp Arena to compete for the traditional state title.

How is it a state championship if it isn't from the KHSAA? That is nonsensical.

As an addendum I also look at that the same way I do a certain football coach saying "We just won the public school championship" before moving on to face Trinity in the finals. There is no public school champion, there is a single state champion and anyone who says otherwise is a fool.

Every small school in the state participates in the All A Classic. The schools themselves treat it as a state tournament.

Just because I shove feathers up a certain part of my body and call myself a chicken does not make it so.

You don't have to agree with it. I'm simply telling you how it is.

Shoot maybe schools from Louisville should call the LIT the "Universe Championship," and crown the winner of it the "Master of the Universe."

I think that sounds just as logical.

No, it doesn't.

I don't expect a guy from Trinity to understand how important the All A Classic is to those that hail from small schools.

Bottom line ... the All A Classic is a state tournament. It's not the state tournament and it's not the Sweet 16, but the teams (boys and girls) that win it consider it a state championship.

Of course it does. A group of teams get together and declare something to be so, it is an identical situation.

Would you feel different if I changed the requirements to make it only schools with "County" or "ville" in their name?

It is an arbitrary designation designed to salve egos. It is a tournament that takes place in this state but it is not a state tournament as it is not the state championship.

You are entitled to your opinion.

There are 125 schools that are eligible for the All A Classic ... given the size and nature of the tournament, I have no problem with the participating schools considering it to be a state tournament.

Again, you don't have to agree with them.

Agree or not, winning it does not make it a state championship. It makes it a tournament championship, just like the LIT.

For what it's worth I would like to see them classify basketball and then the "All A" could truly be that and a true state title.

How many tournaments have you heard of that have 125 teams entered and are pretty much all-inclusive of schools of a certain genre?

The All A Classic is basically like a Class A state tournament, except that its not sanctioned by the KHSAA and it's not played at the end of the season.

The All A Classic doesn't need the KHSAA's blessing to be considered a state title.

I am merely stating that a true state title in the state of Kentucky needs to be a KHSAA sanctioned one. Trinity's titles in "club sports" are nifty but they aren't legit state titles. I put the "All A" in the same category. I have no doubt that the competition is fierce. It is a nice honor and I do congratulate the teams that win it but it is not a state title, just an honorary title. How can a state with only one class in Basketball have more than one state title in said sport? It is a logical fallacy.

Has Trinity won a "club sport" title with 120-plus competitors?

The small schools consider the All A Classic to be a state tournament ... that is reality, whether or not you agree with it.

They can acknowledge the fallacy that it is a state title if they want, I am just voicing my opinion that it is not a true state title. What is the point of even having the KHSAA if there are "state titles" in KHSAA sanctioned sports that are not sponsored by the KHSAA?
