Holmes 67 Elliott County 57

Then I suppose you mean where the fans erupted in misguided outrage over the alleged Pittman "travel," unless they were mad at the no-call on the foul that caused his pirouette?

Elliott was a great story and great for HS basketball. Please don't cheapen it by whining about the officials.

Piggybacking on that: Timmy Knipp played magnificently on defense the entire tournament. Holmes just had too many guys to throw at him, and it was just a matter of time. He got by with a few in a physical game, as often happens.

Great post. I would think EC's fans ire would be directed at the coach. Over the last 3 years he chose to play basically 5 players and not develop a bench at all. A lot of those 40-50 point wins could have been 15-25 point wins and could have used the time to develop and coach the other kids. I believe I read the EC had 4 TO's at the end of the game. It might have been helpful to use those to give your boys a breather. When he was forced to bring in the 6th and 7th man there was a major dropoff and they looked like there was zero chance they were even thinking of taking a shot.

Best wishes to the Elliott County Seniors. This team has really brought a national spotlight to Kentucky High School basketball and should be very proud of their accomplishments. This is good for everyone involved in the sport. Congratulations to the Bulldogs, I wish you the best.

Great game to witness in person. Holmes just too much for EC to overcome. Ethan Faulkner was a warrior, he was the only EC player that could score off the bounce. Holmes just to athletic for Fergurson and the other Faulkner kid to get good looks from the 3 land. T Knipp played great under the circumstances, Holmes could throw too many bodies at him. EC played with great heart, passion, poise, & determination. They truly did feel like that could beat Holmes and played with great confidence. Just with Coach Mays would have used more time-outs to rest his kids. Those complaining about not using his bench all season that is his call. With the run that EC has had the past four years the EC faithful bas been blessed by this team. What they have accomplished will be remembered in Sandy Hook for many years to come. Best of luck to Coach Mays and the Senior of EC!

Very true. This was their downfall. I think either way that Holmes would have been a little too much, but better overall coaching no doubt would have helped Elliott. I believe that alot of the time over the last 3 seasons Mays decided to go for style points in building up huge leads. Sure it is impressive to beat Greenup County by 40, but after EC got the lead in those types of games they should have:

1. Put in some of the other players to get them more game ready. I don't care who you practice against, game experience is always more valuable.

2. Allow people to do other things such as maybe have Evan or Ferguson run the point. This would have helped them in this tournament so that Ethan Faulkner could have gotten a rest and would have helped the other two for college where they may have to handle the ball.

The timeouts could have helped, but honestly it is tough to call a TO when you are gaining momentum.

Either way, EC had a great run and everyone knows hindsight is 20/20. They boys played their hearts out and have nothing to be ashamed of.

paNA - Thanks for sharing your photo's this basketball season - I think they are amazing!

Congrats to EC for a great 3 yrs of basketball. They were fun to track and I cant wait to watch Ethan Faulkner play at NKU next year.

They truly got a steal! In the style EKU plays I cannot see how someone from

Detroit, Cincinnati, DC or wherever could be a better fit!! The Ky schools wonder why they do not get the local support!!!

People can question the coaching of EC all they want but there wasn't a better coach in the state for this team. He instilled his trust and confidence in his players and let them enjoy playing the game of basketball. I'm sure he would do some things differently if he had the chance, but wouldn't everyone? There isn't many coaches in this state that can say they have walked the sidelines at one school for 28 years. He went through some dry years and took his losses a lot of times. He didn't try and jump ship and go somewhere else or walk out when things looked bad. He deserves everything he has gotten the last 4 years. The Elliott County program is in the best shape it has EVER been and that's a direct reflection of Coach Mays and his staff. This isn't the last time your going to see Elliott County play in the state tournament. They may just be making that trip again about this time next March.

Nice win by holmes. Elliott County was fun to watch and a great 3 years at the state tournament and good luck in the future.
