Holmes 67 Elliott County 57

Featured Replies

Congrats Bulldogs on the W over a very good Elliott Co team. Ricardo and Elijah were just too much for the Lions to handle. Listening on the radio earlier today, I felt Rico's defense on Ferguson was the difference in the game. He was the best all around player on the floor.

Good luck to all of the Elliott County seniors in whatever life brings them. They are truly a special group that will be remembered forever in EC history.

So much for Holmes pulling away in the 4th quarter.

Central has to be the most underated team in this tournament.

How did they have 14 losses?

WOW

Still Looking for Ricardo to win this thing in overtime

He is the front runner for Mr Basketball 2010 right now

You called the winner but it took "six" quarters. The Central team was well coached.

They started the season 0-8 but Ridge Wilson & Tim Patterson were still playing football until Central won the 3A state title on Dec. 12th. I am sure it

took those guys a few games get out of the football mode & into basketball.

Congratulations Holmes . . . bring home the big TROPHY!!

Thanks to all the Rupp fans that supported and encouraged our team. It almost brought me to tears to see 2/3 of Rupp arena boo-ing in unison which is a true testament to our boys.

This was the final high school game for J. Ferguson, Et. Faulkner, Ev. Faulkner, C. Knipp, J. Flannery and J. Morgan. I want to take this opportunity to thank each and every one of them for making the last 4 years such a treat. They are all wonderful kids and well deserving of the support and recognition they've received.

It was also the final game for our senior cheerleaders (A. Dickerson, S. Daniels, M. Dennis, C. Turner, H. Kinster, K. Stamper, W. Pennington) who deserve our congratulations on bringing home the First Place Trophy for the cheerleading competition. You ended your season with the biggest win possible.

CONGRATULATIONS

ELLIOTT SENIORS!!!!!!

I'm already going into withdrawl!!!!

Very classy post. Both teams left everything on the floor and either would have been deserving of playing in the championship

I was sorry to see the Elliott saga end as it did, but there can only be one winner, and each team in the state finishes their season with a (tough) loss. It has been fun reading all of the threads this year about the "boys from Sandy Hook" and it was a double-pleasure watching them play this week at Rupp.

While they didn't achieve their ultimate goal, they over-achieved to get to the semi-finals and can always take solace in the fact that they were one of only four teams to be still playing on the last day of the basketball season in our Commonwealth.

The team had personality and charisma. Knowing that they exemplified small-school David taking on the Goliaths of our unclassified state, you had to pull for them. They played together well as a unit and made some incredible things happen.

Good luck to each of the graduating seniors and best of luck to the returning/rebuilding players.

You will become legends in Kentucky basketball lore and in a few years you will have lost in the finals to big, bad, big-city Holmes.

It was fun! :thumb:

This game was a matchup of the two best teams in the tournament. I know I may not be the most liked poster in the eyes of some of Elliott's fans on here, but you all played a heck of a game and I applaud and thank you for making the last two days of the state tournament entertaining.

You and your seniors have nothing to hang your head on, I congratulate Ethan, Evan, Jon, Jon Morgan, Jerred, and Chris for having a great four year run that culminated with the deepest run into the state tournament in your school's history. Facing an adverse situation, such as facing a team better than you and losing, is nothing to be sad or depressed about. You handled yourselves with style and grace and just know that better things await you in years to come. It is cliche to say, but your senior year of high school is really the last time you can be care free and just live in the moment, so enjoy the rest of your senior year and I wish you the best of luck in whatever endeavors you choose to pursue after high school.

Also, I don't know who said it, but this is how Elliott County Basketball in the "Golden Age" will be remembered in years to come:

"It isn't the final score that defines you, it is how you deal with the results of that score."

Well for me boys, I will remember you as a special group of young men and will look back on you with fondness. It was truly a special run that you put on for the past 4 seasons.

Great post. But shouldn't you mean cheering in the part I bolded? How is everyone boo-ing a testament to the kids? I didn't get that kind of negative vibe from them at all.

Thanks for the compliment! I'm SO PROUD of all our kids.

As far as the second statement, anyone who was at the game will know exactly what I was referring to . . . that Elliott County had the support of not only their loyal and longstanding fans . . . but the entire crowd at Rupp Arena.

Then I suppose you mean where the fans erupted in misguided outrage over the alleged Pittman "travel," unless they were mad at the no-call on the foul that caused his pirouette?

Elliott was a great story and great for HS basketball. Please don't cheapen it by whining about the officials.

Piggybacking on that: Timmy Knipp played magnificently on defense the entire tournament. Holmes just had too many guys to throw at him, and it was just a matter of time. He got by with a few in a physical game, as often happens.
