March 20, 200917 yr Poor choice of words, but it happens. Do enough public speaking and you are bound to say something stupid. But I like the way he handled it afterwards with the personal call to the head of the Special Olympics. At the end of the day, it's just not a big deal. But I very much agree that the media would have taken Bush to task over the same statement and no apology by him would have been deemed sufficient.

One of my guy's bowls and averages around 205 (he bowls in two different leagues) and when he saw the President bowl last year on TV, he had a good laugh.... If you saw my guy walking around, or watched him at work, you would say no way can he bowl that well.....BUT the man can indeed bowl and bowls very, very well.

March 20, 200917 yr People make remarks with unintended results. Sometimes those remarks display hidden insensitivities. If you're married and a man, you do it all the time. However, doesn't anyone wish, just once, that one of these public figures who slip up like this would actually stand up and make the apology themselves instead of letting the White House Press Secretary do it? http://politicalticker.blogs.cnn.com/ The comment during the taping of the show prompted Obama to pick up the phone on Air Force One and call Special Olympics Chairman Timothy Shriver to preemptively apologize for the remark before it hit television screens. He also reportedly invited Special Olympic athletes to Pennsylvania Avenue to hit the lanes and give him tips or shoot some hoops. Ask and ye shall receive. :thumb:
March 20, 200917 yr I assume it would have been the lead on the news. While it may not be the lead, the President will have some backlash from this. Come out and apologize first thing this morning and put it to rest. See above. It appears that he apologized before the show even aired.
