LCPATS Posted March 19, 2009 Posted March 19, 2009 I would like to see them pick him up. He has had success under Zimmer and would bring some attitude to the defense. link
futurecoach Posted March 19, 2009 Posted March 19, 2009 I would like to see them pick him up. He has had success under Zimmer and would bring some attitude to the defense. link Only if we get him for cheap. He was the most overrated safety in the league for years IMO. Only reason he kept going to pro bowls was mainly because of his reputation. He couldn't guard a high school receiver if he had too. We have a hard hitting safety in Crocker who can actually guard a guy too. So I really don't want the bengals to get him, unless its for really cheap.
theguru Posted March 19, 2009 Posted March 19, 2009 I agree, cheap. Also, I look at this possible move as adding depth and then not drafting any safeties if they do sign him.
LCPATS Posted March 19, 2009 Author Posted March 19, 2009 I agree with you two,$ is the key here. The article implies that he like a rotation at saftey. This would give us good depth. He and Crocker would be very solid run stopping safties.
Pancake Posted March 19, 2009 Posted March 19, 2009 I would like to see them pick him up. He has had success under Zimmer and would bring some attitude to the defense. link Shouldn't he be coaching the Heels?:sssh:
stick1 Posted March 19, 2009 Posted March 19, 2009 To me it is like coaching Vince Young, Mike Vick, Pat White etc. If you draft those guys and try to make them a West Coast QB (which coaches have done) then you should have never drafted one of those guys. If you put them in a situation like "The Wildcat" offense then they are the best on the planet. Roy Williams is a head rocker that is one of the best blitzing safeties in the game. Dallas blew it when they started putting him in coverage trying to make him become a cover guy. He got exposed time after time. I think Zimmer knows how to use him that's why he is bringing him in. He will use him on run downs and to blitz if he becomes a Bengal. I think Roy can play if you use his strengths.

Pancake Posted March 19, 2009 Posted March 19, 2009 If he can give the Bengals a Palaoumalu presence, I'm all for it. Williams is only half the safety that Polamalu is! RW is a good run support safety, but Troy does both run and Pass...
gamer31 Posted March 19, 2009 Posted March 19, 2009 This would show that the Bengals have decided to think about caring.....if he signs!
98NCCalum Posted March 20, 2009 Posted March 20, 2009 The role of safety in thw NFL has passed RW by....move on.
LCPATS Posted March 20, 2009 Author Posted March 20, 2009 Williams is only half the safety that Polamalu is! RW is a good run support safety, but Troy does both run and Pass... This is very true... I think he could be a good run down/fill in type of player at this point in his career, and help teach the youngsters some attitude. Something the Bengals have needed for years.
PennStation's Posted March 20, 2009 Posted March 20, 2009 Roy is a bad safety. I know for a fact that teams pick on him. They get him into coverage and abuse him. He gets the big hit every once in a while but not worth it. He would have to come for free in order to take him. Just my opinion though.
TubbyCAT Posted March 20, 2009 Posted March 20, 2009 If he is added for depth and to help the young guns move along in their careers then I WOULD BE ALL FOR IT!
