13U/7th Grade AAU

Featured Replies

I seen them over there this weekend in cincinnati, and if i know that coach Shannon he will have them ready for the state! The Elite will be the team to beat if you ask me. The Legends will be a close second but its a tournament and any team can win! Does anybody know besides them 3 teams who will play D1?

I'm sorry but I have to disagree about the coach of DS Allstars/Tarheels. IMHO, the coach from the Tarheels should be running the team. The former Truth coach just doesn't have the basketball IQ or demand for discipline to have that team achieve at a high level.

WOW I dont have a dog in the fight but , But didnt he just win an AAU national title last summer? And the guy coaching with him (Ron I think) Is strong as well, two smart guys but what ever! I think theres a few good coaches in this age group!

Not to be rude, But if the NKy Wolk Pack is so good why are you playing D1? Is it just to win? That program NEVER goes to national! And to say somebody on here dont have an basketball IQ is funny, because there are so so many dads out there that coach there kids and they have no clue!!!! I have been watch this AAU stuff for about 4 years now and my son in a Jr in high school and i feel (Shannon) works really hard for them kids!

You may have to check your facts. Two years ago, the 12U NKY Wolfpack participated in D2 Nationals and won their pool. They lost to the Louisiana Magic (finished 12th) and the Indy Wizards (finished 6th). The Wolfpack organization is very strong. In some age groups, you could argue that they should play D1 at state.

At the end of the day, it a coach and team decision.:deadhorse:

Thanks for the expert comment coming from 4 years experience - I appreciate that. I never said an individual on hear didn't have a basketball IQ, I questioned a coaches basketball IQ. Going or not going to Nationals has nothing to do with the success or failure of a program. The DS AllStars are a decent team - it has nothing to do with the coach. That teams success comes from the talent on the team - not the coach.

First of all, let me say I will not judge anybody as far as their coaching ability, as I walk in those shoes and I am sure many people question the things my teams do (heck, I do when games are over). But, I do agree Shannon works hard for the kids as do a lot of AAU coaches.

Also, it was stated that the Wolfpack should play D1 and Shannon won a national title this past summer. In case anybody is wondering, that title was in D2. Believe me, I am not saying that is still a great accomplishment, but don't cast stones about a division when the team you were speaking of played in that division.

Folks let me state this here: We are going to keep this conversation civil, and there won't be any personal comments or this one will be closed and some of you may be on the outside looking in. Perhaps a review of rule #2 is in order.

Does anyone know if there are any other D1 aau teams playing in 13u other than the three teams previously mentioned?

Any new or improved talent from last year?

I've heard it mentioned several times that the KY Gators are playing D1 this year. Whatever team Cunningham plays for may go D1???? Rainman may have better insight on that. Ken Farley from KBA said there should be a separated D1/D2 U13 tourney. Johnson Central won D2 last year but their best player is now with KY Elite. Anvil has stated that Johnson is not playing this year and they would be the best bet to go D1 with their size.

Cunningham has been practicing / playing with the Scott County freshman-to-be summer squad. He is from Georgetown and is transferring to Scott County from Sayre. So, I doubt he is playing with anyone in state, as Scott County is playing that weekend of the 13U state. I assume he will be with Scott County in 14U D2.

Albany Bulldogs will not be playing after several excellent tournament runs. They (Lanford, Davis, Dalton, Choate) are now playing with next year's Clinton County freshman team.

Scott County will be loaded at the freshman level next year!

Baseball has put a damper on us(plus Shane playing for Ky Elite). We only have 5 players left. I wish they would move these tourneys to March. We would have played if it would have been in March. I think alot more teams would.

Totally agree! It's a week later for U14. They should double up an age group or 2 and use Friday nights.

I think the reason 13U and 14U are in April is because most of these kids are playing middle school until the end of February (if not a little later), so it allows teams more time to get prepared.
