People sometimes get too hung up on winning state. Seriously. Is it important to accomplish lofty goals? Sure it is. But when a school determines that a group of kids and coaches did everything they could, worked as hard as they could, was committed as they could be, and while they didn't accomplish the ultimate goal, they accomplished goals that no one at the school had previously accomplished, I think the school should reward and honor those kids and coaches in any way that the school thinks is appropriate. How does that old saying go: aim for the highest star. If you don't quite make it, you'll still be higher up than people that were only aiming for the moon.

And for the record, I have never been a Whitley County fan, but respect and admire what those young men did and how they can use that as a building block for the future. This type of recognition can help Whitley build for the future. Pride in the program is something to aspire to.

I would say that Cody Jones will be the toughest one to replace. Not taking anything away from Powers but Jones was a factor on both sides of the ball. As far as incoming freshman there should be a slew of them, they had a very tough eighth grade team last year.

So if it is sad for giving your kids a ring for winning the region, which is the first one for boys in school history, then it is sad for getting a ring for winning a SEC championship or conference championship. Seen a bunch of those walking around and those are not National Championship rings. They give out AFC/NFC championship rings, but that is sad because it is not a Super Bowl ring, RIGHT??? I'd say that it is watered down in college sports because there are so many conferences. At least that is what you people who are complaining are saying. Just be happy for the kids, at least that is what you should be doing.

 

You are comparing apples to oranges. The AFC & NFC champions are the last 2 teams standing in the NFL. In KY high school football there are 23 other teams still playing. Not as big of an acomplishment as you might like to think. Not trying to take away from the great season Whitley had, but your comparisons are a little off base IMO.

Whitley should have a few boys be able to contribute next year on the varsity level, they had a very good 8th grade team(probably the most physical Middle school team I have ever watched) last season. You have the set of twins that are beast. The Sizemore boy will be there if Lebanion goes down. Also you have the fullback Jackson who is going to be something too watch.

So I think Whitley will be in good shape for the next few years.

Sizemore is staying back in the 8th grade, so he won't be with the high school team this year. Who will be the backup to Lebanion at QB?

I did not know that, I quess it will be the Inman boy.

The NFL has 32 teams? KHSAA has around 230 playing football? Top 6% versus top 10%, ... not a world of difference in that comparison as you might like to think.

I think that everybody is over that nobody has talked about that for awhile.

 

How has practice been going for WC? They have a tough schedule out of the gate.

I think that the kids are doing well, conditioning is going on getting ready to go to camp next week. They have a huge task in front of them with the schedule, but Jim Black is not going to take the easy road knowing the tough games prepare his team for the the playoffs.

I think having the success they did last year, they got a taste for how hard work can pay off and it could pay huge dividends for the future. They do have a tough schedule and some difficult holes to fill. But Coach Black is a top notch coach and will have them ready.

Watched Whitley County practice against Knoxville Catholic (scrimmage) this morning. Knoxville Catholic is 59-1 in the regular season the past 6 years. Whitley put it to them. I was very impressed with W.C. Good luck this year.
