What would a regional championship ring mean? 24 other teams in the state won region. talk about watered down. State championship rings mean something, no one else is left standing. Regional chanpionship rings are meaningless.:laugh: By the way my favorite team made it to the FINAL 2 years ago. There was no talk of rings, only celebration of the accomplishment and knowing we let one get away.

Glad your team made it to the finals two years ago. I also sorry they did not win it whoever they maybe. Dont try and degrade what a team did, and how people choose to recognize them for their accomplishments and hard work. This thread is suppose to be about next year anyway.

So if it is sad for giving your kids a ring for winning the region, which is the first one for boys in school history, then it is sad for getting a ring for winning a SEC championship or conference championship. Seen a bunch of those walking around and those are not National Championship rings. They give out AFC/NFC championship rings, but that is sad because it is not a Super Bowl ring, RIGHT??? I'd say that it is watered down in college sports because there are so many conferences. At least that is what you people who are complaining are saying. Just be happy for the kids, at least that is what you should be doing.

Sounds like WC goal is only to win region IMO because what will they do if they win it again next year get another ring. Good luck in 09. Can't wait for the Whitley and Bell matchup will see whose ring is more important.

Baseball games or rings? It's hard to tell which one of these would make someone so upset as to post such a pompous comment. I'd like to hear more about Whitley's football team this upcoming year as they are in our district.

It is a nice silver ring, which has "Band of Brothers" on it which means alot to all the players, it has the record, and a black stone with a silver "W". It represents alot to the kids who went from 2-9 to 12-2. That team was a true brotherhood. That ring is just as important to the players at Whitley as the rings at Bell.

 

Although not a state champion ring, it does not have to be, the ring represents the blood sweat and tears that it took get to a championship level. It also represents and comemorates a true Band of Brothers, a group a players who were willing to sacrifice themselves for their team...........

 

From this day, till the ending of the world,

Yeah I think is safe to say that to each player that wears that ring thinks it is pretty daggum important.

Good! They should be proud of what they did. They need something to show for their hard work. They will get those out someday and look on them as proudly as Bell does their state rings. Man, I hope so badly that some of the mountain teams can beat Bell Co. next season.

Whitley County made one of the biggest turn arounds in football history, any kind of reward these kids got was well deserved. Fort Thomas Highlands plays up a class they should be playing 4A, if so history may have been changed. Congradulations Whitley on the baseball win over Bell the other night. Whitley and Bell both should be proud of their football programs, we at South Laurel are still waiting on a coach to be named.

Whitley will be working hard to get a gold ring this season, just like they have been working since the end of last season. The kids are getting stronger and faster, and with the addition of Lex Cath, and Belfry to the schedule it will be a challenge. But it will be a challenge that the kids will not back down from. Also with addition of Harlan County Blackbears it will be a fun season as all the Colonels have great respect for Tom Larkey.

 

There are certainly some holes to fill, but the expections are there and that will make it fun. The line should be better than average, and backs motivated to live up to what last years backs did. All in all I am looking forward to August.

Congrats on Whitley's rings. They certainly earned them with their acheivments and no one can take that away from them.

 

Highlands however is a 3A team playing in 5A.

Highlands is a traditional power and could compete in 6A if they wished. I dont know if they would be as productive at state championships in that class but year in, and year out they are one of the best teams in the state along with T and X and a few others. They are where other teams are trying to get to. I know they are only 3A in size, but their tradition, pride and name is well respected by everyone no matter what level they are at or would compete at. They are sort of a freak of nature, and I dont mean that in a bad way. Year in and Year out a team will have to play Highlands for a state championship or to get to one.

I would also add that the turn around and the making of school history with the best season at wchs is a good reason to get a ring.
