March 20, 200917 yr I'd like to know how many on this board have competed recently in D2 nationals. I've got news for you. It's a different animal. I've taken teams to both divisions national championships. And quite frankly, the field in D2 seems to have gotten miles better because there are many teams that are no longer going D1. With the implementation of one state tourney in many states, if you have one bad tournament, you automatically qualify for D2 if you don't finish well enough. Not like KY where there are two separate tournaments. Take CP3 for instance, the team sponsored by Chris Paul. They played D1 as 12 year olds, had a poor state tourney showingin 13U, and ended up in Memphis last season as a D2 team. Stick them in our state tournament and see if you think they're a "school team". While I'll agree that the cream of the crop in D1 nationally is still heads above the rest, the fields of teams currently aren't that far apart. We can argue all we like here in KY about the disparity, but if you want an answer to the question, especially when it comes to the state tournament, simply do what many other states are doing, and have one tournament. That will separate the teams accordingly, no arguing over disparity, sandbagging, affiliation or the like.
March 20, 200917 yr Author One tournament or 2 seperate tournaments both would work. You can also play in the D1 state and play in the D2 nationals.
March 20, 200917 yr Why play D2 then if they can compete in D1 at U12 and D2 at U13 state? There is a term that is used in golf and it's called, sandbagging. Why would you lose at the middle school state tournament when you should have won it? I'm not sure... A lot of questions with few answers....
March 20, 200917 yr Why would you lose at the middle school state tournament when you should have won it? .... That's not even close to the same thing...
March 20, 200917 yr That's not even close to the same thing... It's a question, that us on here do not have the answer to... Just like the question that was asked. That's the same thing.
March 20, 200917 yr I am a little bitter about the 11/u Wolfpack running it up on us. Their kids were laughing around and it made our kids feel terrible. They had the Moss kid in at the end until he fouled out late and I just felt that they poured it on a little when they already had their pool #1 seed won. I went easy on the guy coaching in the middle school state at the end but I hope I get the same chance again. The Colonels also just wore us out in the 4th quarter and I will remember it also. I would like to think that through all our success, I have never tried to beat anyone that bad. If we get up 20, I am starting to think about the kids on the other team and try to really back off. We took 9 4th graders and 3 5th graders to the state, I will never do that again. It could be my fault but I have a long memory. Of course, this is what you get when a D1 team is playing in the D2 tournament. In the end, the Blaze gave them what they deserved. In the game you are talking about Moss played less than half of the third quarter before coming out, then played from the 4:00 mark of the fourth to the 2:00 mark when he fouled out. He probably wouldn't have played even that much if the Wolfpack's other big guy hadn't had a knee problem that restricted him considerably. And Moss scored a total of 2 points in the game so it wouldn't seem he was much of a factor in the loop-sided win. The 11-U NKY Wolfpack has a good players who come off the bench so it may seem they are "pouring it on" when in fact they are simply letting their players play. Those guys who are not starters deserve to play when given the chance.
March 21, 200917 yr Author Exactly, I have recovered a little bit from getting my brains beat out at the 11/u and you are correct all of the Wolfpack players did get time, there just wasn't much difference. This, however, does lead to the difference between a D1 and a D2 team. Everyone agrees that the Wolfpack and the Blaze where the 2nd and 3rd best teams at either level. If these two where in D1, the D2 tournament would have been competitive. Please play up when you should or pretty soon there will be just one division with 5-6 teams playing because last weekend wasn't much fun. You can go to the D2 national tourney even if you play D1, unless you win it(D1).
March 21, 200917 yr Author prediction time D1 the Ville over the Tigers in the final D2 Kentucky Elite over the Suns in the final

I know the Wolfpack beat the Rockets 3 out of 4 times they played this year..The Rockets finished runner-up in the D1 tourney..I would say your assumption is probably right. I wonder what happened to the Hoptown Hoyas and Team Focus this year????

March 22, 200917 yr The Wolfpack only beat the Suns by 2 in the tourney. Do you think the Suns should have played D1 also? The Wolfpack has beaten the Suns several times throughout the year. I would guess 6-8 times. The Suns have one victory over the Wolfpack, to my understanding.
