Holmes doesn't run with anyone. They play a very deliberate style by spreading the floor and using their athleticism. They actually didn't handle the ball that well in the regional when they did try to run.

Wouldn't want to comment until Friday night about 10PM, because there are many bridges to cross for both teams before this becomes a reality. I actually feel Holmes's bridges has more traps in it than the ones Elliott has. Elliott has some traps in its bridges also. But, I will be in my comfy Lexington Hotel with no laptop and no computer (which is a good thing). Just a TV with ESPN sportscenter and NCAA games, plenty of soda and popcorn. Won't even know or care what you gents/ladies are saying until maybe Sunday afternoon sometime when I get back home. I'm sure if I wanted to I could read for hours on Sunday afternoon. Some of you who think Holmes can all of sudden run for 4 qtrs are dead wrong, the only way you get conditioned to play at that tempo is to play that way every night. No amount of running in practice will get you there. JMO

I wish. My point is that unlike some I just get away from it all. Don't bring laptops into the room like many do (don't own a laptop for one). Getting on preps during the state tournament might ruin a good vacation.:clap::ylsuper::banana:

I'm with you, once I get down there I am not going to worry about anything but watching some great Basketball all over the country and miss a couple days of work; I need it. :thumb:

I have seen neither team play but as a member of BGP, this matchup is the driving force behind me even attending the Sweet Sixteen. Don't get me wrong, I look forward to all of the games, but the passion that the Holmes and Elliott County fans has been great to watch from an outsider's point of view. I have no dog in this fight. I look forward to Thursday when I finally get to see both of these teams in action. I hope that we do get the opportunity to see this matchup once and for all, but if we don't, it won't be because of this thread or what people have posted. This game has been the most talked about hypothetical matchup in the state and if it does come to fruition, all I can say is that I am so glad that I will be there to witness it. And unlike Lion Mania, I am sure that I will be on my computer, finally able to post about my own observations from finally watching the two most talked about teams on BGP this basketball season as soon as I can get home from the game. Good luck to both teams.

I want to bring attention to the dicussion by saying why hasn't Holmes won by any significant margin when they slow it down. Yes they do average 40 points and yes they do find a way to win but your telling me that beating Boone by three points couldn't have went either way.

If this matchup was to occur (which I don't think it will) Elliott would win by double digits. Holmes has really stuggled offensively lately and Elliott's press would give them fits.

 

Holmes guards will have no problem breaking EC press. JJ,Rico,Dom, or JaMel can bring the ball up court. :idunno:

An excellent statement. On top of conditioning, can they immediately adjust to the split second decisions at that pace. I dont believe they will try to run.

I agree that I look forward to this game if it comes to pass, and also agree that I enjoy what these guys have to post.

Knowing Elliott's worst games have typically been when the tempo is slowed, why would Holmes want to play fast if they didn't have to? If you're confident you can win either way, it makes sense to me to play at a pace the opponent would be less effective at.

 

I'm with you on all accounts. Expanding on your question, Holmes has not shown that they are capable of controlling the tempo, so if Elliott wanted to run and aviod going slow with Holmes, the Bulldogs would probably play along, because I'm not too sure they could slow it down anyhow because Elliott has shown that they're a team that can control the tempo, but the Bulldogs have not. You know Holmes just can't wait to get out and run if given the chance. I never get the impression that they enjoy slow ball one bit because they have to fight their urge to break out all the time. Logically if they could slow it down on Elliott they increase their chances, but I don't see them missing a chance to run if they are given one. My gut is telling me it's going to be a serious running game, but I can't begin to say who would win if this is the case.

If these two teams play one big key that I haven't heard anyone mention is if Holmes wants to play slow will they be disciplined to pull off the break if its not there & set their offense. As basketball fans we all have seen it at every level if slow down is your style or strategy it is very rare that team doesn't get caught up in the up tempo game. Will Holmes guards be able to pull it off?
