Are Kentucky Fans to Blame?

Featured Replies

How can you blame the fans, who are sometimes just a tad bit ridiculous, when your coach just flat out can't coach?

Says who? The fans? You may have just answered your own question

This might be what they are talking about

The mans' performance. Not myself or any other UK fan. His performance has spoken loud and clear...

He's done things the last couple years his predecessor couldn't get done. Are you saying his predecessor couldn't coach either?

I think the expectations are ridiculous. But that's what history does. History causes either a rise or fall in expectations. But if Kentucky fans are to look at history, about every ten years this happens.

2009 - 19-12

2000 - 23-10 (#5 seed, second round loss)

1990 - 14-14 (coming off probation)

1979 - 19-12 (NIT)

1967 - 13-13

I think the expectations of BCG as a recruiter where way out of whack and as I have pointed out in another thread, he has whiffed on a lot of high profile recruits and it's obvious in their lack of depth at some positions.

It wasn't good enough that Uk won games. They had to beat teams by 20 every night.

What's amazing to me is how vocal and ferocious the common fan base can be, yet the fans that fill Rupp Arena are some of the most serene in the nation. Are teams really scared to come into Rupp any more? Not likely.

Tubby is probably more happy coaching in Minnesota because of the lack of expectations there. Eddie Sutton was perported to have drank during UK games.

There are some UK fans that expect them to be national champions every year. In today's college basketball landscape, it ain't happening.

Within every 10 year period you used there was at least a final four appearance except in one. Care to guess which period that would be?

This is a basketball state and that brings along with it everyone throwing in their 2 cents. I am constantly hearing from a person who has watched 20 games total and once dribbled a ball during grade school gym why a coach is a moron and should be fired. It goes with the territory. If their opinion is backed up by someone that once played middle school basketball, watch out!

Many posters on here dont realize what those of us out in the boonies have to endure. One thing is for certain, they are the first to call in on the radio lines to state their opinions.

While reading this article on Kentucky basketball I read this quote, and it got me wondering if maybe the pressure the fans put on these kids are just as much of the problem as anything? The quote is after a few paragraph's talking about the pressure at Kentucky.

"I thought I was prepared for all of this,'' says freshman Darius Miller, who grew up on the Ohio border town of Maysville, Ky. "And then I got here and I realized I wasn't. I can't explain it. You have to experience it.''

Maybe these kids should grow a pair and start dealing with the pressure a little. Were they that naive into thinking there wasn't going to be any pressure at the University of Kentucky. Are our crazy fans not highlighted enough by Dick Vitale?

What are those things that he has gotten done?

1.Beat Florida and Vanderbilt.

2.Win 12 games in the SEC.

3. Most importantly, turn Joe Crawford into one of the best players in college, and Ramel Bradley into a good player.

4. Get his players in shape.

I can't believe you seriously told a kid to and I quote " grow a pair". Classless move.

You're right. Let's baby them all their lives and make them think that life is all popcycles and ice cream cones.

How do you blame the fans when UK hasn't had a PF since Chuck Hayes? And a center arrives every 4 years.

You don't have to baby them but to say "grow a pair" is simply disgusting.

How is that any different from using the (equally common, I might add) phrase "Man Up?"

I do hope you don't have kids....and if you do, you don't tell them to grow a pair. It doesn't take a genius to figure out that life is difficult, but I do promise that the solution to everything isn't simple "growing a pair". What a juvenile thing to say.
