If Owings looks to be as good a choice as the other two, I would give him the nod. Masset can go to the bullpen and be a spot starter, and Bailey could fill the same role if the team feels he has nothing left to accomplish in Triple-A.

I can see that, but it will be very interesting to see what kind of moves the Reds make because the bullpen seems to be almost set. Let's assume they go with a 7 man bullpen. I would think the following are locks.

 

 

Cordero

Weathers

Burton

Bray

Rhodes

 

I know Masett doesn't have any options so he's pretty much a lock for one of the spots if he doesn't make the rotation.

 

 

I'm not sure if Lincoln has options or not, but I would think he would have to really bomb not to make the Opening Day roster. That's why I wouldn't be a bit surprised to see the Reds make some sort of trade before Opening Day with one of their pitchers.

Owings

Bailey still has options, so it wouldn't suprise me if he starts out in Louisville. I think Owings is a very interesting player since DB can actually use him as a PH, essentially a 26th man on the roster. Hal McCoy wrote about this the other day, and he has a good question about Cueto.

Harang will be the opening day starter unless he gets injured.

 

Bailey will narrowly lose out to be the 5th starter. Owings has just a tad bit more experience. Both are pitching well this spring. The future looks bright for the Reds pitching staff. For the first time in a long time.:thumb:

Anyone know what Bailey's velocity has been so far this Spring? I keep looking in the paper for some mention of it, but haven't seen anything. He's done well so far in spring training, no doubt, but he won't survive throwing in the high-80's like he did last season. If he's got himself back up into the mid-90's again, then there would be cause for some real optimism with him.

^ I don't think both of them will make the team. Masset is going to be coming North when it is all said and done(Probably long reliever) and I don't think they will have enough room to keep Bailey and Owings.

I think we could see one in middle relief if the other becomes the fifth starter. My question would then be, who is left out of the bullpen from the list below, assuming you go with 7 in the pen and the ones in bold are locks?
