Perry Stevenson is...

Has anybody ever had a teacher, coach, or boss that no matter how hard you tried to do the task to the best of your ability, you could never do enough? If this is the case then you must be able to relate to how Perry Stevenson must feel playing for Billy Clyde.

Perry is a tall, long, skinny, long-armed basketball player who is being asked to play like Ben Wallace. He is not capable of playing like Ben Wallace and now, all of his confidence has been stripped from him.

Can anyone relate to how he must feel? Anyone ever been in those shoes before?

I am not sure if you are blaming Billy Clyde for Stevenson's play???

Stevenson came in with the reputation of being a rebounder and shot blocker... he was never a big scorer in high school. He shows flashes of Ben Wallace against inferior competition, but when it comes to big boy time, Stevenson gets pushed around.

Expecting someone 6'9'' that can jump to get some rebounds and block some shots is not asking too much. I always played for coaches that expected more from me than I thought I had.

I think Billy Clyde has taken away the confidence of many players in his short time at the University of Kentucky. Perry Stevenson has obvious limitations and zero confidence right now. If Perry Stevenson had obvious limitations and an abundance of confidence right now, he would obviously be contributing in a much greater fashion.

Same can be said psychologically about Michael Porter, Kevin Galloway, DeAndre Liggins, and Josh Harrelson. Throw Jared Carter in there as well.

I agree with you and I can say that I responded better to my coaches that demanded 110% from me.

But all personalities are different and the best coaches/psychologists are the ones who know how a player is wired and handle each and everyone differently.

Having a player run stairs and suicides and have to endure long, long practices doesn't work for everyone. It appears, based on their coming together late in the season as a team, it is not working for UK.

Poor Perry.

Porter - Averaging more shots per minute this year than last.

Galloway - played 20min or more in 3 of the last 5 games (not including SC, where he was unavailable). His best games have been in February.

Liggins - Doesn't have confidence? Really? If anything he has too much confidence.

Harrellson - Josh's minutes have decreased because he isn't athletic enough against SEC teams. I haven't really seen a lack of confidence when he's been on the floor.

Carter - Are you serious?

I love how you didn't mention Miller. Miller CLEARLY struggled early with confidence, but didn't hesitate to nail a 3 late in the game to tie LSU. He's undoubtedly GAINED confidence through the year.

Agree on your last statement, except for Carter.

But the only thing we've asked of Stevenson is to be what he was last year when Patterson went down. He hasn't come close to duplicating what he has already accomplished in the past. I don't think that's asking too much--to bring to the table something you've already brought before.

W/ the exception of Patterson, this is a very weak team. LSU knocked at least 6 rebounds out of UK players' hands. UK needs a player that everyone hates, except for UK fans. They have very little fire.

Stevenson has made Andre Riddick look like a Mr. Universe Body Builder. :thumb:

Perry Stevenson has ruined his own confidence. He can't catch the basketball, and when he finally grabs it, he normally walks. How is that BCG's fault, at all?

Michael Porter may or may not have confidence issues; however, I think his biggest problem is that he's afraid of airballing / bricking a shot. Personally, I could care less. He still needs to shoot the rock. I don't care if the ball rims out or if it clanks the backboard, or if he airballs it. He needs to shoot the rock if he's out there.

I don't know how in the world you could possibly attribute any confidence issues from Galloway, Liggins or Harrellson to BCG unless you saw them play before they arrived on campus. And even then, they're playing against an entirely different level of competition now than they used to.

One incident that comes to mind is Kevin Galloway takes the team on his back versus Florida and plays 2 1/2 minutes four days later versus Arkansas. His psychology in substitution patterns is as strange as I have ever seen. It does affect a players confidence, trust me.

I agree with you on Michael Porter. He does need to not hesitate and shoot the basketball.

I understand that it can affect a players' confidence, trust me; however, I don't think Galloway is one of the guys who has been affected by BCG's crazy substitution patterns.

Neither has Perry Stevenson. He just can't catch the ball and take control of it.

I do agree that the substitution patterns make you shake your head. As a fan, they're frustrating. I cannot even imagine how frustrating it would be for the players.

I have a hard time thinking that if Jared Carter had been given minutes in the past two seasons, he couldn't help Kentucky at least in some games with certain match ups. I see how bad he has looked at times on the floor, but he hasn't played much to get any sort of flow or confidence. It does make a difference.

Good post!

Billy Clyde's handling of Galloway is difficult to understand.

I say the same things and have been blasted (outside of BGP) for saying that.

The kid is 7'2'', but he's just so slow. Slow to react, slow to develop, slow everywhere on the court.
