Gabbard is a fine player but if I had the first pick in the 9th Region fantasy point guard draft, I would go with Jamel Riley from Holmes.

 

Riley is more of a combo guard who happens to play point.

 

Gabbard plays a true PG game.

 

Note: I'd take Riley on my team in a second. I'm just agreeing with the true point that NKYBoy made. No disrespect to Riley.

So who does Romes guard? It sounds like keeping pressure on Gabbard and keeping him from penetrating are the keys to stopping Boone. So does Shumate put his best defender, Romes, on Gabbard? If he does, who guards Cotton and McFarland? I would guess Snyder, Beuttel and Romes are the three that will match with Gabbard, McFarland and Cotton. If you were Beechwood, how would you match up?

I think you are on target. When I look at those matchups, I think Beechwood could pull the upset if they can keep that five on the floor.

I love the match ups in this game. Both teams match up very well. I'm going to go with Boone in this one. I think they have more scorers than Beechwood. I also think the depth of Boone will help them in this one.

I say Beechwood surprises everyone and comes out ready to play, Coach Shumate will have a gameplan and these guys will be ready, I think Beechwood pulls it out by 6 with Beuttel icing the game with a couple free throws.

I would rather have Beuttel at the line at crunch time than any other player in N. Ky. He is automatic at the foul line. If it gets to that point, Boone is in serious trouble.

IMHO the best game of the first round pairings. Bwood hits the trey's and Boone will be in trouble but if the 16th Region Refs get whistle happy, Beechwood will be in trouble. This game has all the looks of a close and exiting game for the fans to watch or listen to.....

I actually like Boone by 10. I think the free throws at the end of the game will go the other way.

I agree. Boone's guards Popp and Gabbard are both both shooting over 80% from the charity stripe.

Boone by 8 - maybe 64 to 56. I think Beechwood has about a 1 or 2 in 10 chance, which I'm sure they would take.

Both teams are coached well!

 

I haven't seen Boone play but I know 6'0 Pohlgeers as mentioned earlier is not correct. Pohlgeers is at least 6'2.

 

I agree the bench will be the difference in this one. If BW stays out of foul trouble they can win. If Smith gets into foul trouble early, Boone runs away with it. Fouls will be the difference.
