I know in U11 the Wolfpack beat the Suns in the final by 15....

The Ville, don't have a 13 Under team...

The 13 under Ky Elite, was playing up in the 14 under division in this tournament with out their big men.

And, the 13U Ky Elite won the 14U division, beating the Wolfpack 52-35 in the finals. The Elite went on a 20-3 run over a 5-6 minute stretch to take a 37-13 lead and they coasted from there. Portwood from the Elite was the best big man this weekend and the only big man that played on Sunday for Elite. McCormick and Grundy also especially solid weekends for the Elite. #50 from the Wolfpack played well in both games against the Elite and Timmons from Franklin County is a heck of a guard.

By the way, The Ville team you are thinking of in the above post is the 14U Ville that finished 6th in the nation last year. So, I agree, if the two teams mee, the Ky Elite 13U would have some problems. The Ky Elite 14U will be the one battling The Ville this April in Lexington.

The Ville 14U lost by 30 to the Texas Titans today.

What happened to the Blaze, thought they were unbeatable?

I was very dissapointed with the 14U teams refusing to play man to man defense. You call yourselfs the "elite" but you sit back in a zone, way to prepare yourself for high school basketball, just frustrating to me is all. Overall good tournament, I enjoyed it.

You will see zone with most of the top AAU organizations. I've seen it with the Ville (U12), the Tigers (U12), the Suns and Scott Co Wolfpack. Man to man isn't played unless they are losing. Offense is the name of the game....on defense it takes more time to teach man to man. Which is what every kid will be playing in high school.

Maybe that is what they thought but the last time I checked, the Wolfpack were the defending state champs and have more than held their own this year as well.

Great showing Pack, U11 winners and U14 runners up!

You can't always play one defense. The Elite played man most of the time in their first tournament, but played a halfcourt trapping defense most of this weekend, until late second quarter against Franklin County and all game against the Wolfpack -- when they went with a 2-3 defense that had the look of a matchup zone. First of all, as a coach, you have to mix it up to keep the other team (or other coach) off balance and personnel (both yours and the other team) determines what you can do. In my opinion, though, a good offensive team can attack either a zone or a man defense, so it really shouldn't matter what the other team plays.

You are right, a good team should be able to attack all kinds of defense but KY Elite didnt play any man against FC and they didnt press because they knew they couldnt contain Timmons. It was a good game plan obviously it led to a win but still dont be scared and man up. Also, glad to see they tried to bring kids in to play that werent on their roster for the tournament. Portwood is a heck of a player but felt he got the benefit of the doubt on some calls but thats just the way the ball bounces sometimes.

Just out of curiosity:confused: How many of these 13U 'KY Elite' kids are 13? How many have held back a grade? Not trying to sound negative. I'm just curious how many have been held back?:idunno:

Well Im not going to mention any names but I know of 3 for sure that have been held back. It doesnt matter they could have been beat. Just have to make them work hard on both ends of the court.

I made it over today to Scott Co and checked out a couple games.

I was impressed with the KYElite 13U team. They played up without a few of their horses from what I was told and pretty much handily defeated the 14U teams and won the championship. You guys are either confused or it must take a very lot to impress you. Again this was the 13U team not the 14U KY Elite. The 13U team played three games today without their bigs and had an hour and a half practice with and against the 14U team in Lexington between their first and second game today. I can't wait to watch the 14U team get after it. They probably won't impress you guys either.

Of the 7 kids that played in the semis and finals, 2 were grade exceptions -- Portwood and McCormick. On their normal roster, they have the 3, as allowed in AAU.

How many holdbacks are on the Franklin team?
