This tournament for the past couple of years has been billed as an AAU tourney. Why would putting you into a pool with Mason County be "pretty bad"?? Omega, Panthers and Vipers are all AAU teams as well. Did you only want to play teams that you thought you could beat?

 

This time of the year most school tournaments are done and it's on to AAU or select. I commend Bracken and the other school programs for continuing to play together. Don't play in an AAU tourney and they complain that it's too competitive for you and that makes it unfair (my words based on your comment).

If you had read my post, my question was last year Bracken County played all (county)schools in this tournament that were all on the same level and not complaining about the competition whatsoever, just think it could have been distributed better, maybe have Omega(Campbell County) Paris, Mason County,Scott County Vipers, Bracken County and Montgomery County divided into 2 pools. Wolfpack,Blaze,Colonels, Suns in another. The results would have been the same, just may have been more competitive pool play on Saturday

Raiderbird, It would have been nice if Bracken County could have been in Pool C with Omega, Panthers,Paris and Vipers. All teams they could compete with if they had their point guard and a full squad, as it turned out putting them in Pool A with AAU Wolfpack and Lex. Colonels, along with Mason County 1 was pretty bad, though they had Mason County on the ropes before losing by four without the aforementioned starting point guard. Do you know if this particular tournament was an AAU tournament last year? Bracken County won their age division last year competing against the likes of Clark County,Scott County,Harrison County,Lincoln County, Fleming County and Elliott County. Wolfpack,Blaze,Suns,Colonels,etc. on another level. Really liked the Suns squad,especially their 2 little guards, you know anything about them? Thanks.

 

It seems like you always make excuses why your team gets beat or can't compete. Omega is an average AAU team that doesn't have tryouts. We for the most part have had the same kids for three years. The goal for this team is to get our kids better so they can play middle and high school ball. The other teams you have mentioned try and upgrade their teams whenever they can. Omega is not that type of AAU team..Our kids and parents get a long and enjoy being around each other. We don't make excuses we just go and play and let the chips fall where they may. When we play these teams we don't whine and cry about it. You just do the best you can and move on..:irked:

Thanks Rainman. I was just curious. I had heard so much chatter and comments, you know how everyone gets when they see a nice team, especailly if the kids are big. Anyway, I was able to see them play for a few minutes this weekend and the way people were talking around me made me want to go to a source that knew the facts.

I agree with this. When I have setup a tournament in the past (when all teams advance to single-elimination tournament like this past weekend), I try to match teams competitively in pool play. I think it is not only better for the perceived weaker teams, it also allows the better teams to have a more competitive weekend. Sometimes, though, the organizers don't truly understand who are the better teams.

You keep saying the Elite did not have 2 of their big men. Well, the Wolfpack did not have 3 of their good players the last game they played the Elite either. Also, IMO the whole tournament was set up for the hosting team,the Elite, to cruise through to a win. Sunday night the Wolfpack had to play 4 games to the Elites 2 and with the Wolfpack getting only a 20 minute break before their game with the Elite. It is hard to win when you have no legs left. The Elite 13U is a good team but they might as well be a 14U team with the ages that they are. I do know at least one of the Elites big men is 15 years old which is older than anyone on the Wolfpacks team. And don't forget The Wolfpack was the only team that beat the Elite in pool play. So, when the brackets were drew up the only natural thing to do to ensure that the Elite won was to make sure the Wolfpack were beat to death before they played them again.

We signed up for $225 to play in the 10/u division at Georgetown College. When we got our bracket we were in with 4 4th grade teams and 4 5th grade teams having our own little tournament at Northern elementary. We were quite upset but decided to go on to Georgrtown because it gave us an opportunity to play. When we got to Northern it was a small gym with no 3 point line in the corners and wooden backboards with no square above the rim. My other son played for Richmond in the 13/u at Ann Mason Elem. and it was very nice. The deal at Northern was not handled well at all.

Rainman, thank you for actually reading my post. Not once in my post did I make excuses for losing or not wanting to play competive teams, just thought that pool play should be more even. What does Wolf Pack and Blaze,etc. gain from playing Bracken County in pool play? Tournament play is different and should seperate the good from the bad, not pool play.

Let's get some facts straight here.

 

1. KY Elite was not the host team. Their coaches and one player are from Georgetown -- that's it. They entered the tournament just like everyone else.

 

2. The Wolfpack played 3 games on Sunday to get to the finals and the Elite played 2 (not 4 and 2). The reason the Wolfpack had to play an extra game is they finished 4th in their pool. So, if the Wolfpack would have won another game in their pool, they wouldn't have been "beat to death." They only had themselves to blame for that.

 

3. And, you do NOT know that one of the Elite's big men is 15, because he is not. Portwood -- the kid I am sure you are speaking here -- is 14 years old and a 7th grade exception.

 

4. My comment above about the Elite missing 2 of their big men had nothing to do with anything other than the previous post that said they were a big team. I was just saying if their normal lineup is there, they are even bigger. I know the Wolfpack was missing a couple of their players in the finals.

 

Again, the above points are the facts. Another fact, the Wolfpack has a nice team and will do very well in D2 state (at least I heard they were playing D2 state -- correct me if I am wrong). And, they have some nice players, most notably #50. As I told him after the game Sunday, I look forward to hearing more about him down the road in high school.

 

Sorry for what some may perceive as a rant, but I get sick and tired of people posting the same incorrect information over and over and over again on here.
