I made it over today to Scott Co and checked out a couple games.

I was impressed with the KYElite 13U team. They played up without a few of their horses from what I was told and pretty much handily defeated the 14U teams and won the championship. You guys are either confused or it must take a very lot to impress you. Again this was the 13U team not the 14U KY Elite. The 13U team played three games today without their bigs and had an hour and a half practice with and against the 14U team in Lexington between their first and second game today. I can't wait to watch the 14U team get after it. They probably won't impress you guys either.

 

Now you know why they didn't play man today.:lol:

But hey if they had practice between the Warren County game and the Franklin County game then good for them. Some things to remember, and yes I know its AAU, Warren County Cougars are the Drakes Creek Middle School team that will all be going to Greenwood next year and Franklin County is Elkhorn Middle School's team that will all be going to Franklin County next year. I feel to be school teams they competed well, especially FC, against a team of the best kids of that age from around the central Kentucky area.

You are right, a good team should be able to attack all kinds of defense but KY Elite didnt play any man against FC and they didnt press because they knew they couldnt contain Timmons. It was a good game plan obviously it led to a win but still dont be scared and man up. Also, glad to see they tried to bring kids in to play that werent on their roster for the tournament. Portwood is a heck of a player but felt he got the benefit of the doubt on some calls but thats just the way the ball bounces sometimes.

There are no hold backs on the Franklin County team.

Like I said, if KY Elite had its normal roster intact, some man-to-man would have been played. And, in case anybody is wondering, Franklin County did not play 100% man against Elite either.

 

Im pretty sure the only time FC didnt play man to man against Elite was when they pressed 2-2-1 for maybe a grand total of 3 minutes the whole game. Everything in the half court was man to man and some man to man full court.

Don't forget about South Oldham and RC Celtics (Trinity feeder). Those 2 and Franklin County were all very good school teams. Scott County is putting together their summer school team as we speak, which combines Scott Middle, Royal Spring and Georgetown Middle. That should be a very good group as well.

Rainman11, you are right I forgot to mention RC Celtics and South Oldham, both are very good school teams. I thought the whole tournament with the exception of a couple teams was very competitive. I enjoyed being around it this weekend.

Just out of curiosity:confused: How many of these 13U 'KY Elite' kids are 13? How many have held back a grade? Not trying to sound negative. I'm just curious how many have been held back?:idunno:

What happened to the Blaze, thought they were unbeatable?

 

I know they are beatable. Omega beat the Louisville Legends last weekend and the week before that the Legends beat the Blaze..When I made that statement it was very early in the year. The Wolfpack are a legitimate D1 team this year and can play with just about anyone..:thumb:

Raiderbird, It would have been nice if Bracken County could have been in Pool C with Omega, Panthers,Paris and Vipers. All teams they could compete with if they had their point guard and a full squad, as it turned out putting them in Pool A with AAU Wolfpack and Lex. Colonels, along with Mason County 1 was pretty bad, though they had Mason County on the ropes before losing by four without the aforementioned starting point guard. Do you know if this particular tournament was an AAU tournament last year? Bracken County won their age division last year competing against the likes of Clark County,Scott County,Harrison County,Lincoln County, Fleming County and Elliott County. Wolfpack,Blaze,Suns,Colonels,etc. on another level. Really liked the Suns squad,especially their 2 little guards, you know anything about them? Thanks.

This tournament for the past couple of years has been billed as an AAU tourney. Why would putting you into a pool with Mason County be "pretty bad"?? Omega, Panthers and Vipers are all AAU teams as well. Did you only want to play teams that you thought you could beat?

 

This time of the year most school tournaments are done and it's on to AAU or select. I commend Bracken and the other school programs for continuing to play together. Don't play in an AAU tourney and they complain that it's too competitive for you and that makes it unfair (my words based on your comment).

Of the 7 kids that played in the semis and finals, 2 were grade exceptions -- Portwood and McCormick. On their normal roster, they have the 3, as allowed in AAU.

 

Thanks Rainman. I was just curious. I had heard so much chatter and comments, you know how everyone gets when they see a nice team, especailly if the kids are big. Anyway, I was able to see them play for a few minutes this weekend and the way people were talking around me made me want to go to a source that knew the facts.
