Ryle 58 Conner 56 (OT)

Featured Replies

Seems like Conner was still up 7 very late (3 minutes left) but I'm not sure. Missed FT's were Conner's downfall. Ryle was as bad or worse. Perhaps the most exciting finish of any game I've seen this year.

They did score after the lead was cut to 5, but it seemed like that started the momentum shift. Instead of backing it out and setting up some offense when the break wasn't there, they gave Ryle some life. Simply where I felt it start to turn...

I would think that colleges would start to give him a look if he can handle the ball. Ryle was having to guard him with some big guys all night and he was on fire big time.

Conner just about had a chance to end this thing in the first half. I believe they were up 20-8 early in the second Q and had all the momentum in the world when they went ice cold. Take a 12-14 point lead on Ryle into the second half and that's a lot given the offensive problems to which Ryle is prone. Letting Ryle back into it at halftime was huge.

Great game by Stauffer. Good luck Raiders against Boone!

Great game by Stauffer.

Glad you mentioned him. I forgot.

The kid is really good and has a nice low post game. He gets good position and uses combo moves when he gets the ball. His FT shooting has improved dramatically from earlier in the year.

He was awesome in the 2nd half...

Stauffer really fights and moves well without the ball. Ryle played well with him in the game and seemed to struggle when he was out of the lineup.

Nice win Ryle :thumb:

Congratulations to Ryle, looks like this one was pretty exciting!

I didn't see Robinson or Hodges name in the box score. Did they play?

I was there and although the clock read 0:00, the foul was called with right at 1.5 seconds left or just slightly under that. The Connner coach had every right to gripe like he did.

Let me follow that up by saying the referees did what they should have done in that situation in not putting time back up because there is no way in high school basketball to comfirm how much should have been on it.

Final game is Boone vs. Ryle Friday nite at 7 at Boone. Conner gets to start football next week as their boys and girls teams both lost tough games to Ryle.

This was a fun game to watch and Conner had the game in the bag. Incredible finish with lots of agony. Coach Hicks did a great job of continuing a valid yet pointless argument since you can't put time back on in h.s. - no TV monitors. Froze the heck out of Ryle's shooter by all of the ranting and then a TO. Conner's Avery was brilliant from 3-point land - not sure he missed more than 1-2 all night and must have canned 6. Sweet stroke.

Here is my breakdown of the situation. The referee may put time back on the clock if he is sure of a timer error. On this particular play there was no visual confirmation by an official that indeed the clock wasn't stopped properly. Also, and I think one of the main points is there is acceptable lag time between when the whistle is heard and the clock is stopped. In last nights case the clock read 0:00 but the horn had not sounded so Hicks called a time out since technically the game was not over. I think Hicks did a great job too of having the discussion while Coleman was waiting around to shoot. Great game!

Not a lot. Hodges had one blocked shot that I remember but he simply wasn't strong enough to battle Nichols.

Robinson went down with an ankle injury after four minutes in the first quarter and did not return.

Robinson has been a good inside presence for Conner all season. I have seen where Hodges has been mentioned as one of the top sophs in N Ky but in my opinion Robinson has been the better player. Losing Robinson that early in the game had to affect Conners inside game especially being able to battle with Stauffer and Nichols.

What yr is Robinson?

Am I correct that Avery is a JR? If so, he's easily a top-10 9th region player next year.
