BGP Rankings 2-17

Featured Replies

I'm not in agreement with the BGP poll this week. I think Elliott is a top 5 team.

Boone is still not top 10 in the BGP poll, which is the one that most people on this board seem to think is the most accurate. I would say Boone should be somewhere around 13-14 right now, which is where they are currently ranked in the BGP poll.

BGP is the only poll that doesn't have Boone in the top 10. Massey, Cantrall, Litkenhouse, Calpreps, and Maxpreps all 5 have Boone in the top 10.

People seem to forget that Elliott County also beat Anderson County earlier, who is in the top 10 now.

AC is 19-4 with close losses to Elliott, Scott County, J-Town, and Bullitt East. I think they are right where they belong at #10.

One other note on the EC-Anderson game which there is the possiblity that the two could play again. AC out shoot EC 50% to 36.5% and out rebounded them 46-27. Russell and Penny are among the leaders in the state in rebounding and CJ Penny is a load to handle. I look for the re-match to happen.

The Bullitt East loss is the loss that really hurts AC.

You have criticized those computer polls all year long for their inaccuracy.

7th Region has 6 of the top 20. Is it the toughest region this year?

I don't believe the BGP is the most accurate. It's solid, but the AP Poll is just as good.

I sure have. I hate the computer polls. But I was just saying there must be some legitimacy to them if all 5 have the same team in the top 10. I believe the AP poll also has Boone in the top 10 for KY as well which is media voters and not computers.

I have thought all along that there is some merit to the computer polls. A combination of computer rankings and AP rankings, like they do for the college BCS, is probably the most accurate way to rank. There are also teams like Perry County Central that have been ranked in the top 15-20 in computer polls most of the season.

Certainly don't understand how Lexington Catholic is ranked above Elliott??

They have lost 7 games ...

That is because Lexington Catholic plays one of the toughest schedules in the state.

... and the Mason game went into overtime. We handled Mason by double figures.
And LexCath played at Mason County ... remember how Elliott got manhandled in Maysville last season?

Our two losses haven't exactly been to Bugtusle HS and Possum Trot HS.
A lot of the wins have, though.

Would that be because the AP has Corbin in the top 10?

As has been mentioned before, the computer polls tend to get more accurate as the season progresses (i.e. more data becomes available).

Anderson was definitly underrated to start the year, but are overrated now. I don't know why they would be ranked ahead of Franklin Co, Clark Co, or Mason Co.
I can think of two reasons ...

1. Anderson just went to Dunbar and thumped the Bulldogs, who have been in the top 20 all year.

2. And the Bearcats lost in overtime on a neutral floor to an Elliott County team that everyone seems to agree is a lock for the top 10.

Possum Trot is a tough place to play. The lighting is very poor.

The only team they have beaten that is that good at all is Dunbar. Franklin Co. has beaten Tates Creek, Clark Co, Mason Co, Madison Central, etc. And they played Scott Co. better than Anderson (even though Anderson was on a neutral site and Franklin played them at home).
