I admittedly haven't seen Boone at all this year. But I've seen enough of their key players from last year and this year over the summer on the AAU circuit to know their strengths and weaknesses.

 

As far as your assessment on Riley, I have to question in return how many times you've seen Holmes this year? Riley is shooting 43% from 3 pt land and 49% from the field. You can't tell me that it's because he's wide open all the time when he's attempted 167 shots this year..Riley is actually best off the dribble when it comes to his mid range game.... And as far as Gabbard and Popp being able to get to the rim better, we'll have to wait and see, but honestly I think you're going to be in for a surprise tomorrow. Riley gets to the rim at will because he handles the ball so well. Gabbard struggled mightily last year against Holmes.

 

And Remember Gabbard was just a sophmore last year, he has put asolid 25 pounds on since last yr of solid muscle.

Well the game is only 8 hours away so we'll find out here soon. Gabbard isn't the only one who has bulked up since last year though...

 

Pittman had 12 last year on Earls and Rico had 16 on Mcfarland...both are bigger and stronger this year. :thumb:

No...he had 14 on Clark. Pittman didn't guard Earls. Nelson did. Defensively Earls guarded Pittman though because he was the biggest player on the floor when Clark was out. :thumb:

Riley is very good off of the dribble and does a good job finishing in the lane in traffic. Doesn't get enough credit for this because of his ability to shoot the three.

I think this game poll is close because their recent games have not been the type of wins people are expecting out of Holmes. I agree with Eta that a loss now would do more harm than good for Holmes. If Boone wins this, it will give Boone the confidence they are missing about winning the big game and set the stage for a fantastic showdown game in the regional.

If Boone wins, and I hope they do, Holmes will destroy them if they meet in the Regional.

Agreed...winning by 10+ at Boone should eliminate doubts. That doesn't mean they are unbeatable of course but it should show the non-believers they are the #1 team in the state till someone proves otherwise.

Holmes problem is over confidence. They play to the level of their opponent. If they play a better team they step it up. If they play a lesser team they play good enough to win. Case and point they built a 19 point lead in third quarter against Highlands, let Highlands come back to within three, then pushed the lead back out to ensure victory. Look at what they did to Bryan Station after an early loss to them, a 18 point victory at Bryan Station. Holmes needs to get consistent down the stretch with their level of performance against whoever they play or come tourny time an unexpected loss could ruin a stellar season.
