SI reporting ARod tested positive for Steroids...

I think it is becoming obvious that plenty of players were using....

Absolutely. But my guess is that this is not an entirely new batch of names that we haven't heard before and are many of the same names that McNamee and Radomski provided to fed investigators and were contained (or alluded to) in the Mitchell Report.

I think it's kind of a good thing though. I get tired of watching games wondering who is juicing and who isn't. At least this might help force the issue to totally clean the game up and make it a pure sport again.

These days I don't think there's many doing so. The testing is much improved and baseball now has a serious penalty program in place. Plus the stigma of such association is so incredibly career-threatening that it's not worth the risk.

The issue that I struggle with is knowing that the accomplishments of so many players - accomplishments that may stand as all-time records and serve as the the basis for their HOF consdieration - are tainted and were clearly attained by cheating. And because baseball was so incredibly lax in pursuing this issue for so many years, we really don't know (nor we will ever) just how pervasive it was and who all was involved. We know some for certain, some we strongly suspect, some we think might have been, and some we highly doubt. But nothing's for certain. I would have put A-Rod in the "some we highly doubt" category, yet here we now have proof that he was a user. If you're a fan of baseball, it's sad, it really is.

I agree. I try to look at it that the pitchers were probably taking just as much as the hitters so that levels it out a little. No doubt they have tainted the game, the records etc. There is simply no easy answer.

I'm a little suprised but not shocked. It is what it is IMO. The era will always be tainted and I hate it for the few that weren't on them. The HR's etc I'm mixed on. I don't think they hit as many if they weren't juicing but they are the best in the world at what they do. Roids don't help hit a curve ball or a 95mph fastball. It was crazy the way Bonds just hit everything out that was a strike. His patience impressed me more than anything. It would be scary how many he would have if there weren"t walks. The pitchers were juiced too!

I'm dissapointed as I'm an ARod fan.

No, they don't. But if you're already pretty good at hitting a curve or a 95 mph heater, steroids can definitely make the ball go further when you do hit it, helping turn what ordinarily would have been a 300-foot routine pop fly into a 350-foot blast.

Not picking on you in particular, because this is a common cop-out phrase people use to help excuse the guys from cheating.

Do those of you that believe Bonds and Clemens shouldn't get into the Hall have the same stance about A-rod?

Not that is makes it any better but its comical how Hitter gets the raw end of the "Steroid Era". Would you not think the pitchers were doing the same? Andy P. was caught and then you really didn't hear anything else about it.

Not saying you are wrong, but how much to steroids help pitchers? Does it make them throw it faster? More strikeouts? You may be right but is there a virtually direct correlation between steroids and a pitching statistic/measurement like there is between steroids and home runs?

I do agree that the better excuse for playing stat apologist for the hitters is the pitchers were/are doing it too.

Pitchers don't always have their best stuff every night, and are more hittable on some nights than others because of fatigue, injury, etc. Because of steroids' ability to speed healing, it allows a pitcher on the juice to avoid the peaks and valleys in a season more easily by always staying healthy.

This makes perfect sense, look how small he was in Seattle now look how big he is.

I'm sure it could allow a pitcher to throw harder, if used properly. Pitchers were most likely also taking HGH allowing them to recover faster between starts.

He wasn't exactly small in Seattle....

I hate it that every time someone get's caught using roids this is the response. A good workout can do wonders for the body, even without roids.

Going to ask a question, regarding the use of steroids. I work with a gentlemen, who had some eye problems/related disease. He indicated steroids were prescribed to help his sight and speed the healing process.

Does this sound right and is there a difference, in the types of steroids for muscle building and eyesight.

When your talking about a game of centimeters 1MPH can do a lot of a difference on a fastball IMO.
