Boone forced the Raiders into a lot of turnovers in the 2nd half and when the Raiders did get shots off, they were not falling.

This is a stunning score. I've seen Ryle play this year, and for them to score just 30 points against anyone surprises me...I know Boone is good, but I didn't they could - or should be able to - hold Ryle to 30 points.

 

I thought Ryle could be a dark horse candidate in the 9th if Holmes should stumble, but now I wonder...

 

Ryle hasn't been good since the Doellman days.

I have kept quiet long enough! 30 points, in a Varsity basketball game?! There is no reason this should happen. Especially in a school filled with athletes like Ryle. It isn't like Boone tries to slow down the tempo either. Last night, I was a little embarrassed for the players. It seems like they are forced to slow their game down. I wish Ryle had a more uptempo game and would take it to their opponents a little. Hopefully they'll make it out of the districts this year.

 

The tempo has been an issue for 10 years at Ryle now. Nate and Mullins both wanted to play a slow game and try to win by playing solid defense. The toughness on the defensive end has been a quality at Ryle since the 2001-2002 season. However, they have always been offensively challenged because of the coaching staff. There are too many solid athletes at that school to only be scoring 30 points against a team like Boone.

A Ryle team that is challenged on offense is nothing new.

Heck, look at Doellman's junior and senior year scoring average and try to tell me he wasn't good enough to average more than 17 as a junior and 21 as a senior.

Coaching has been an issue for over a decade now. Until the school wants to put the basketball program equal to the football program this will continue to be the case.

 

It is a shame to see such great teams at Gray Middle School come to Ryle and not produce. The 2001-2002/02-3 team were solid because they played AAU together.

That is definitely a possibility. However, a source that was at the game last night told me that the Ryle PG looked completely lost out there. Seems as if Mullins has been willing to stick with Ahern even if he struggles at times.

It'd be nice, but it just ain't gonna happen. Other than maybe the Conner games Ryle hasn't beaten anyone of significance this year. Not even entirely certain they've beaten a team with a winning record other than Conner. It is a shame - this team has some solid players and nice size. They should be better than what they are.

Ryle goes as Ahern goes. Against Conner he seemed to play with a lot of confidence and was able to get to the spots on the floor he needed to start tthe offense. I don't think it is a coincidence Ryle struggled to score points against Boone Co and Scott. They both play a very physical man to man and make it tough on the PG.

This is the truth...the year after Doellman left Boone beat them by about thirty. It got a little better after that year, but still struggles for Ryle.

It's a disaster...

What has happened to Ryle I know up around Christmas they were playing well. Has something changed or were they just not playing good teams early.

Defiantely a shocker that it ended up this lopsided.....

They started playing teams with winning records.

 

Over the last 5 years, Ryle has gone to small Christmas tournaments and got most of their wins that way. A big school like Ryle needs to be playing in bigger tournaments, but they schedule soft around Christmas time and get some wins.
