Sidelinedoc, since he is eligible to lift weights, is he?

He can't workout as part of the team until July, but he has weightlifting class 7th period and he is lifting. He has put on quite a bit of muscle over the past 6 months.

I guess spring practice is showing several suprises. The young talent is going to push the upper classmen. I guess we'll see who wants it more.

Yes it is. The kids benefit from solid JFL and middle school programs that seem to be getting better each year. We have some great coaches that don't care to put the time in with the younger boys. Very unselfish men with the good of the program in mind.

Every year we hear that Raceland has lost a lot of their starting lineup due to them being seniors and they don't know who will step up,but you guys always seem to have a good team.This tells me that you have a good, well coached program. Best of luck this year except when in battle with GCHS.

Thanks for your kind words about Raceland's program. The coaches from Kindergarten flag all the way up threw the varsity do a great job of teaching the fundamentals and keeping the young kids interested in playing football. I believe that is the key, you want your JFL kids dreaming and wanting to play for the varsity at a young age. Plus, you want them to learn the little things that they can carry with them to the next season and build on them.

 

A program is not just what you see on Friday nights, it is mostly the things that you don't see on Friday nights: the off season workouts that no one sees, the conditioning that no one sees, the junior high team, the JFL teams, the coaching that take place behind closed doors, the hot practices that happen when most other kids are at the pool and the casual fans are not yet thinking about football.

But, I wish your team nothing but success this season, you now have a very good coach, and great excitement surrounding the program. Those are two of the main ingredients in program building. Good luck to Greenup County. I look forward to them coming to town.
