February 3, 200917 yr I don't see what the problem is with the guy who took the picture. I guarantee you if I was at that party I would've had my phone out taking that same picture. This guy is a world record holding Olympic athlete, the blame is on him not the picture takers.
February 3, 200917 yr I have much more of an issue with the people who took the picture and exploited him than I do with him getting high. "Cell phone terrorist" as Paul Daugherty called him in his column this morning. Daugherty also added, "Athletes aren't role models. Most athletes need role models".
February 3, 200917 yr I am a bit surprised that the companies he endorses and so many on here are downplaying this situation. This makes three illegal activities for Phelps in the past four years. Yes he won 8 gold medals and may be the greatest olympian of all time, but that does not put him above the law. It does, however, make him a bad role model with very poor judgement.

February 3, 200917 yr 1) He has admitted to "regrettable behavior" not to smoking dope. Unless I missed something. 2) The prosecutor has to prove it is indeed Phelps in the picture. 3) The Sheriff has to be able to prove that the party was held in his county. That will be the hardest part. My friend that went to USC saw him at "many" parties on campus. But, I agree with you.

The bottom line is that marijuana should be legal. In all reality, Phelps was probably drinking a few beers too. Should we condemn him for that? As long as he doesn't operate a motor vehicle, what danger does it present? Apparently this has been a pretty normal thing for Phelps since the Olympics... Does it matter? I saw a poll and 80% of 300,000 people voted that they didn't think it was a big deal. That Phelps was just being a 23 year old guy and it didn't bother them.

THEY ARE SIMPLY DOING THERE JOB I agree that they are doing their job; however, with today's economy and police departments nationwide cutting back and complaining about not having enough resources it sure does make you wonder. Is this really the best use of those resources and what limited funding they have? Particularly since there isn't really much of a case here anyway. This took place in NOVEMBER. 2 1/2 months ago.
