Madison Central Streak of district titles

Recommended Posts

If my memory serves me right, Madison Central has won the 44th district 15 straight times. I was curious if any team in the state had a consecutive district title streak close to that....Anyone know a team that has won more districts in a row?

For some reason I thought St Pat had won at least one district when Jordan Owens was there..

AYG is correct. St. Patrick's last district championship was in 2000. Mason County has not lost in the district tourney since before the "Lofton-Miller years."

What other schools are in this district that this impressive streak has occured.

I think Madison Southern, Berea, and Model.

The 44th district has been very weak for several years. Berea and Model will always struggle to compete with Central and Southern has never really been strong. Before Southern opened (1989, I think), the district included Madison High in Richmond and they were, however, very competitive and many times better than Central.

Rockcastle won the region twice out of the 49th and had very good teams for three or four years. I think they only won the district once during that time, but I'm not positive. That would break Clay's streak though, whatever it was.

I think Clay had a very long streak starting in 1978. I think OBI upset Clay in 1977.

Well really and truly, I think the 44th district should not even be in the 11th region anyway. Granted Central is usually the stronger team, but Southern has had teams in the past that could have competed in other regions. Central and Southern should be in the region that Rockcastle and Clay are in.
