Chris has also played at EKU for two years. He played WR one year and DB one year before he decided he would rather coach as play football on the college level. I am sure he picked up some valuable skills while playing under Roy Kidd.

 

I forgot about that. Chris was a QB in HS and was a very solid athlete. I like his energy and enthusiasm. He loves the game, and it shows. :thumb:

Not only did he work with/for his dad, Tom Larkey, he worked with Tony Saylor all those years at Rockcastle. You could coach at a lot of different places and never be around two better coaches.

Assistant Coach of the Year awarded to Chris Larkey

 

Coach Chris Larkey who is in his 17th season as an assistant coach for the Rockcastle County High School football team was recently awarded the 2006 Assistant Coach of the Year Award for the state of Kentucky. Chris was eligible for this award when he became one of four finalists in the state and received the 2006 Region 4 Coach of the Year Award earlier in the year. The Kentucky High School Football Coaches Association (KHSFCA) presented Coach Chris Larkey with two plaques recognizing the accomplishment. Chris is a graduate of Rockcastle County where he lettered three years in football, from 1985 to 1987. He then went on to play at Eastern Kentucky University where the Colonels won the 1988 Ohio Valley Conference Championship. Chris began coaching in 1990 and has coached either the freshmen or junior varsity teams each year. He has compiled a record of 111 wins and 21 losses during his previous sixteen seasons. Chris has also been an assistant on the Kentucky-Tennessee All Star Staff in 2004, coached in the 2005 Mid-State All Star Game for the South team and has worked at the Tim Couch Football Camp in Lexington, Kentucky. Along with coaching football, Chris was an assistant track coach for ten years from 1991 to 2000. Chris has also coordinated several community service projects including sponsoring a toy drive for Toys 4 Tots where the RCHS football players donated hundreds of dollars worth of gifts to the charity and he also stays with several players after each practice and conducts a prayer group. Chris currently teaches World Civilization at the high school, he is married to Leslie Larkey and they have one son, Christian. They reside in Mt. Vernon and attend Grace Baptist Church.

Wasn't Knox Central the first place Wayne Mills was a head coach? That sure turned out real fine, he is a great coach and has turned that program upside down the last 4-5 years.

I read where he was an assistant coach for Rockcastle Co. for 18 years. Don't most head coaches start out as assistants? I bet even Coach Hilton didn't immerge from his mother's womb as a head coach. They have to start somehwere and gain experience. Every head coach has to have that first year as a head coach. I also read that North Laurel's won 9 games since 2005. Give the guy a chance! Is there a stigma because he was an assistant or that he was an assistant to his dad?

All you naysayers put this in your pipe and smoke it...

Chris knows his stuff and like someone else said, he can't do much to hurt the North Laurel program if they have only won 9 games in the last few years.

 

He will bring in a good coaching staff and I think this program will be much improved.

I understand Dudley was an assistant at Washington County, even if it was as a volunteer, so Mama Bear is correct.
