January 30, 200917 yr I saw something in the boys basketball forum that mentioned how seeding distrcit basketball tournaments will get even tougher as a whole statewide due to the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd Regions having three team distrcits in the next couple years. Could anyone in the know please let us less informed in on this? Also, would anyone know any information about schools from other parts of the state that will be consolidating into another school?
January 30, 200917 yr Muhlenburg North and Muhlenburg South are supposed to be consolidating, however, I'm not sure how soon it will happen.
January 30, 200917 yr I posted on this before, and will be glad to tell you what I know. It has been reported that Reidland, Heath, and Lone Oak school districts are looking into consolidating into one high school. Of course their are those opposed and such. But the powers that be estimated the cost of a new high school would be less than maintenance and add-on costs of the old schools. If the consolidation were to take place that would leave only Paducah Tilghman and the new school in their district. And being that the rest of the region all have 4 team districts there will have to be a realignment of districts. Now the obvious would be either Paducah Community Christian or Marshall Co. moving. Paducah Comm. Christian because of proximity, or Marshall Co. because of school size and strenghth to even out the district. But being that the KHSAA is trying to do away with 3 team districts then that opens up the 2nd, 3rd and 4th Regions doing some realignment because the 2nd Region has 4-4 team districts.

I know the 4th Region may be able to ship out one team since they add South Warren in the Bowling Green area. I could see Todd County Central shipping back to the second region, but that's about where the flexibility ends. There's no one else in the 4th that fits in another one of those regions. Personally, I'd be surprised if they could manage to not have 3 team districts.
January 30, 200917 yr Well that's what I was thinking, but when did the KHSAA make the obvious move. I would move Marshall Co. and that would have Tilghman, Marshall Co. and the new McCracken Co. Central in the district. It would make for evenly matched district in my opinoin.

Here's my guess on the new 1st region district setup: 1 - Carlisle County, Fulton City, Fulton County, Hickman County 2 - Ballard Memorial, McCracken County, Paducah Tilghman, St. Mary 3 - Calloway County, Graves County, Mayfield, Murray 4 - Community Christian, Livingston Central, Lyon County Marshall County That's me projecting Livingston and Lyon moving out of the 2nd and into the 1st. But then who knows what happens with the 2nd!

But then who knows what happens with the 2nd! I forgot all about St. Mary's. That makes it a little more easier or harder depending how you look at it. Also, if Muhlenberg South and North merge then that could have a ripple effect as far as the first four regions being realigned. As of right now, the only sure thing is that McCracken Co. BOE is considering the consolidation of 3 schools.
January 30, 200917 yr On the flip side, there has been talk of Scott County building a new high school somewhere down the road; their enrollment is currently right around 2,000. I haven't heard anything lately though, so maybe that is off the table.
January 30, 200917 yr McCracken County's school board has already approved plans to consolidate the three schools in the system. The best guess right now is that the new school will be open in the fall of 2012. Muhlenberg County's consolidation takes effect this fall. When South Warren opens, you could see Todd Central move back to the 2nd Region. Todd was moved from the 2nd to the 4th around 25 years ago, I believe when Logan County consolidated. I've tried to play with an alignment that would basically break up the 2nd Region, sending parts of it to the existing 1st, 3rd and 4th regions, but I'm still having a little trouble making it work.

God forbid that we put the general student body and eduction ahead of athletics! But any talk of splitting into 2 schools will just be all talk. As long as Billy Hicks and the the Cardinals remain one of the top programs year in and year out out you will not see them split into 2 schools. You might see one big school, but not 2.

So I guess the most immediate question is, what will they do about District 10 with just three teams? Does Hart County move from the 5th? I think that would be a quick and easy one there, but would require some shuffling, either moving one of the Hardin schools (most likely For Knox) into District 18 or shipping in the Bullitt schools from Region 6 and shuffling that region.
