January 31, 200917 yr Author How do you do that with the little blue boxes?? The little box to the right of "quote" that has the ' in it...tag that for every post that you want to quote EXCEPT the last one. Hit your regular "quote" mark for that. That will pull all tagged quotes up in your reply box. :thumb:
January 31, 200917 yr RTS, I think that the perception that some are feeling in this forum comes from these statements. I think, as so often happens with words (even of our elected leaders) people get the wrong impression. I think that acemona, Hatz and pigman are saying that Jesus preached love for everyone. He did not exclude any person based on anything - race, gender, socioeconomic status, attitude, etc. There was not a single person, including the criminals on the crosses next to him, that he did not feel compassion for. FWIW, I don't believe that you don't care about these people. Your caring comes in wanting them to change and take responsibility of their own lives. No, they're just spinning things to view me in the light they've always seen me in. That's fine, I couldn't care less what their opinion of me is. I will not have words put in my mouth though. I never said I hated these people, I said if they don't care, I don't care. Because of that, according to a few that wish to see things only through their political, leftist view, I hate all poor people. Ridiculous, absurd, pigheaded and obnoxious of them.
January 31, 200917 yr The only "spin" here is on the two of you. Oh, so sorry I misspelled Preacher. I haven't changed a single thing, hence the huge spin on your behalf. Minister, Preacher, makes no difference to me. I don't care to be preached to, I go to church. Your degrees, and I mean no disrespect, don't mean a single thing to me. I'm Catholic and I'm really not interested in your take on religion, again, nothing personal. My view of this had zero to do with religion, the two of you constantly inject it into the discussion (why, I have no idea) when it comes to me. So do me a favor and leave the religious comments out when quoting me or discussing this with me. I'm fine with you disagreeing with me, but please stop the religious talk, drives me nuts. Just like with LBBC it is hard for me to disengage my faith from my viewpoint. The two are forever intertwined.

For someone who does not care for who some of us view you, you sure spend a lot of time responding.

I will not have words put in my mouth though. Exactly what you've been doing, and as I said, I won't let you get away with it. Maybe your not used to someone that won't put up with that, I don't know, but you picked the wrong guy for that garbage.

I responded to your critcism of Acemona's passage of scripture. Then you decided I wasn't qualified to talk about scripture. And I showed you that I'm probably more so than you. Whereby you then stated you didn't want to be preached at or talk religion except with your priest. If you can't see the spin then Ray Charles and you have something in common beyond vocals. :thumb:

Again, you have much more in common with Ray Charles than I if you can't see yours and Aces spin in this and the other thread. The two of you spun my words into everything you could to label me as a hater of the poor. Asinine at best. Again, don't think for one second that you can get me to back down, ain't going to happen. Your condescending tone has no effect on me and I will not put up with your attitude, try it on someone else as you're failing miserably with me.

February 1, 200917 yr Sorry, I don't see where the Bible tells me to care about someone that doesn't care. Can you enlighten me? First off, I would offer as exhibit A, Jesus Christ who went to the cross to die for the sins of people that would spend most of their life rejecting him and offered his life for those that crucified him. He cared and cares for them, even when they don't care but openly reject and fight against him. THey can do that their entire life and within seconds of the end of their time on this planet, honestly come to him and he will accept them with open and loving arms. Exhibit B, Jesus told us to do the same thing. Defense rests but reserves the right to crossexamine at a later date.:thumb:
February 1, 200917 yr Many are quoting scriptures where Jesus says love thy neighbor and his working with the poor. I could argue, and would, that he is referring to bringing them to the light. I believe some are twisting a comment on here, way beyond the comment itself, stretching scripture.
February 1, 200917 yr I assume you are kidding here . . . The two greatest commandments are to Love God and Love You Neighbor. The religious leaders asked Jesus who their neighbor was, and with the story of the good samaritan He showed that it was everyone. So it is actually a COMMANDMENT from JESUS himself that you love everyone else as much as you love yourself. That is the whole story of the new testament - "God Loves you therefore you should love everyone." WOW - how did you miss that? Loving someone enough to teach them a lesson is often a greater love than simply giving that same person a hand out. I love my children, but it is my job as a parent to care enough about them to teach them lessons rather than simply giving them what they want. IMO - if we really want to show love to the "unemployable" then we do what it takes to make them employable rather than enabling them to remain unemployed. I truly believe that's what Jesus would have us do.
February 1, 200917 yr To the original question, I would offer that one option would be military service for the "unemployable". This would help on several levels. 1. People could be trained for some type of employment while serving their country for the $ they get. 2. Those who can would have a lot more inspiration to go out and get a job. 3. The country would have some benefit from the investment it is making in these people. Just a thought.

I was trying to think of a response to get the post back on track myself, and may have gone farther off than most, but I was looking for a little inspiration. I believe you may be on to something here. Some might say that those that didnt want to work would attempt to claim some religous exemption, but there are plenty of non-combat jobs available. For the nonskilled, the training is less expensive than the typical education needed to be make a valuable contribution.

You are talking about going from federal funding at a lower level to a higher level as you employ the unemployed as military personnel. It would help their morale/esteem and serve the country well but would cost much more to pay salary and benefits and retirement to a military employee than a welfare recepient.
